Try to do a telnet test.news-service.com 119 and see if you get any response. Also the retention is quite low at this time 4-5 days max on some groups.

You could try now for the past 2-3 days it's been working very well at least for me, but retention is 2-3 day max but curently spoilling i guess.
Btw freebin-auth.readnews.com and freebin.readnews.com seem to be back on after more than 50 days offline.
If you need a fill server free.sonic-news.com it's quite good because it's from an highwinds ( most of you know them as newshosting) resseler. So for a good fill server if you don't have newshosting this is the one for you . There is just one catch 50 Mb / day .
Another good fill server could be public.teranews.com who can now use ssl on 563 and 80 port and now supports headers compresion with ssl.

Hope it helps ;)

PS: All of them are on Ipv4

seems to be down for me

BOO :(

well on the plus side public.teranews.com works on port 563 (SSL) and is supposed to work on 80, supports 2 connections. freebin.readnews.com and freebin-auth.readnews.com both work on 119, but my school blocks 119, and teranews is being lame and not working on 80, and my school blocks 563 as well.

I tried these servers out for uploading and none seem to work. Anyone know any free servers to use for uploading?

To upload I would buy the smallest block from astraweb and you'll have unlimitted uploading.

Usenet is definately worth paying for either way. Just the speed is insane compared to torrents, something I'd happily give away money for.  ;D

Freebin.auth is backup, eweka is back up, and xsnews and newszilla are still goin strong....

Connection wise:
Freebin.auth - 8
eweka - 8
xsnews - 5
newszilla - 5

Getting very close to line speed at around 580 KB/s (my line is like 621 KB/s MAX) this is all through Sixxs.

just thought i'd update ;)

I keep having the same problems over and over...

I had 3 servers running at once for a long time, topping out my line speed. Then, every so often, 2 of the servers will stop working for no particular reason, and then eweka will not even work until I remove the other 2 servers and restart sabnzbd. Then eweka will run just fine.

The errors I am getting are:

[downloader] Connecting 4@news.ipv6.eweka.nl:119 failed, message=502 news.ipv6.eweka.nl: Access denied to your node - ipv6@eweka.nl

I even get this when people are saying Eweka is up sometimes...

Weirdness...

Is eweka down right now? I can't seem to connect to it for the life of me. I looked at their homepage and they're advertising paid usenet access. Have they always done this or have they just now begun charging for access?

they've always had that.. eweka does that from time to time so you'l have to just ride out their downtime for a lil bit
