Accessing SAB on my Mac from Android tablet

Post by 4videosites »

Hey All,
Thanks for awesome app/program/utillity.

My problem is accessing, viewing, my SAB client that's on my Mac from a browser, Firefox, on my Galaxy Tab. It worked flawlessly until the last time I had to wipeout the tablet and reinstall everything, now I get a "Server not found" error. I have no clue what changed since last few times I had to wipe the tablet clean and reinstall all of the info. I would just access my SAB (and Sickbeard) from the Firefox browser and be able to control everything. I also now have a problem with SAB Android apps such as SABcontrol, I get "can't connect" errors. I can view/access from other Mac, which is right next to the one with SAB on it, and I can also access through Safari on my teeny tiny screened iPhone. I made sure all of the addresses were correct, hence being able to accessing from Mac and iPhone, but for some reason that's driving me apeshit crazy, I can't connect with the Galaxy Tab anymore, and I used the http://localhost:80xx/sabnzbd/, http://Apple-Xxxxx-Center.local:80xx/sabnzbd/ and finally tried the ip address/port supplied after installation process http://10.0.1.12:80xx/sabnzbd/ . Any help is much appreciated or direction to where I can find help would also be much appreciated, especially if someone on here has experienced and remedied this problem.

When you use http://10.0.1.12:80xx/sabnzbd/ from one of your MACs, does it work?

BTW: you can leave in the details (no xx needed), as the number only have value on your own LAN. And it will avoid mistakes ...

Yes it does work on my other Mac and iPhone too. I bought tablet to use as a couch surfing remote control center for myself and it's worked perfectly fine until last reset. UGH! Just a heads up, my other apps on the Galaxy still work and access apps on the Mac, like Rowmote, VLC remote etc.

Any help is much appreciated,

Thanks,
J

To be sure: does it work from Mac and iPhone via http://10.0.1.12:80xx/sabnzbd/ ? So not via the other URLs you mentionned?

Hey Sander,

I tried "http://10.0.1.12:8086/sabnzbd/" It doesn't work. I get a "Cannot connect" error. It also didn't work for "http://localhost:8086/sabnzbd", BUT IT DID work on my iPhone and Safari browser (on other mac) for "http://Apple-Media-Center.local:8086/sabnzbd/". Still nothing on the Galaxy no matter what address/url I use.

Just a FYI, after wipe and reinstall before this last one a few days ago on the Galaxy, the "http://10.0.1.12:8086/sabnzbd/" DID work until I turned off everything and started things back up the next day. I don't know what the heck happened with that.

Could the issue be related to my Airport Base Station. I have both computers hard connected to the router, while everything else uses the wifi channel.

Again, thanks,

J

The machine on which SAB is running: what IP address does it have?

SABnzbd can discovers it's own IPv4 and IPv6 address:
First, set logging to Debug in SABnzbd: Status -> Latest Warnings -> Logging ... set it to +Debug
Then, after a (re)start of SABnzbd: Status -> Latest Warnings -> Show Logging ... that download the logging in a text file. Open that and find the line with "My IPv4".

Example:

2014-07-25 17:42:46,045::DEBUG::[sabnzbdplus:1271] My IPv4 address = 192.168.1.103
2014-07-25 17:42:46,054::DEBUG::[sabnzbdplus:1280] My IPv6 address = 2002:1122:aabb:1:fccf:34:3c:ca82

Oh wow, it showed up after installing latest version of SABnzbd….

2014-07-26 19:25:09,694::DEBUG::[SABnzbd:1283] My IPv4 address = 206.222.bla.bla

2014-07-26 19:25:11,134::DEBUG::[SABnzbd:1295] Could not determine my IPv6 address

except for IPv6… BTW it's running on SnowLeopard, if that makes any difference.

206.222.bla.bla is a public IPv4 address (I have removed the last two bytes for you). That is strange; I would expect a private IPv4 address (10.x.y.z or 192.168.x.y) as you're behind a NAT-device.

And that IP address 206.222.bla.bla is different than the IP address from which you're posting, so I'm lost. You aren't running a VPN client on that Mac, are you?

Can you find your LAN IP address via one of the methods here: http://osxdaily.com/2010/11/21/find-ip-address-mac/

I don't connect that computer to internet via WiFi. Should I? I thought ethernet was faster and more reliable and they are right next to each other, so what the hey?

The ip is 10.0.1.16 via Ethernet

Then you should use that, and not http://10.0.1.12:8086/sabnzbd/ which you tried.

But, with a VPN active, I really can't predict the behaviour.

Hey Sander,
I GOT IT TO WORK! Somehow the ip address changed since the last time I input all of the info. I keep the info on a text file and so I kept putting the previous 10.0.1.12, but you made me look at it again in the Preferences and I just noticed that it is now 10.0.1.16. And now it works when I key in that address…. so far!

Thanks very much for making me double check.

Good that it works.

You could consider installing a Zeroconf client on your Android ... as that client will see your OSX machines (and their IP address). See https://play.google.com/store/search?q=zeroconf
