Howto: updating in Debian proper

I was wondering if there have been any updates in how to get a more updated version ofo Sabnzbd in Debian Bookworm (12)? The one it comes with is 3.7.1 -- YIKES!

I can’t use docker on this system. I could put it in a VM but I’d like to avoid that. I’m surprised sab doesn’t maintain a more updated deb package and apt repo.

What do you mean? I am on Linux + Debian + KDE. This is my daily driver.

I've already looked into all the various options. For me, the option I want to go is SabNZBD directly on my linux box -- no VM or Docker.

I just thought I'd check if there was a better way to keep it updated since this post is old and hasn't had any comments/updates in a while.

I just wondered what prevented you from doing a docker install. I did try to do a recent install using the instructions from main page but had issues installing rust so went for docker

I need to run multiple VMs on different VLANs using bridged mode and that doesn't play nice with Docker. I could do things to make it work but I don't have time or want to muck with it. I can't use macvlan cause my router does not support hairpin mode. I've researched this for a hot minute. I could run Sab in a container on a VM but I'd rather avoid that. My use-case is very basic so running on bare metal is fine for me. I just don't like how old the Sab package is in Debian -- 3.7.1.

But if you're that technical, why don't you run SABnzbd from source, with a python-venv? (Disclaimer: Maybe I missed something) See https://github.com/sabnzbd/sabnzbd/disc ... nt-6198486

Or: convert the PPA to *deb as https://wiki.debian.org/CreatePackageFromPPA seems to suggest

And finally: If "multiple VMs", why not Ubuntu one such a VM, where the PPA provides uptodate SABnzbd?

I was hoping for path of least resistance. I'm technical but I don't have a lot of time to figure new things out. I don''t know how to do those things -- but I guess I'll have to learn. Thanks folks!

So I found another way for Debian Bookworm (12). Or I think it is another way. I am installing from stable-backports and I think this way I get automatic updates.

https://packages.debian.org/search?keyw ... &suite=all does not show an official backport for Debian Bookworm (12).

But I can see it in stable-backports:

I added this to my /etc/apt/sources.list file:

Then after doing apt update, I can see it and was able to install it.

No. I was reading various Debian documents to try to figure it out. Never saw the link you shared.
