Warning On Every .NZB Download From BinSearch.info

Post by war59312 »

Hey,

Every time SABnzbd downloads a .nzb file from BinSearch.info a warning such as this is logged:
Duplicate part 1, but different ID-s ([email protected] // [email protected])
Any chance this can be fixed within SABnzbd or is a bug that BinSearch.info needs to fix themselves?

Thanks,

Will

SABnzbd gives a warning because the NZB contains two "competing" records
for the same part of a file.
SABnzbd has to choose one of the two and it may pick the wrong one, hence the warning.
Just to let you know that there may be a problem.

The problem is clearly with binsearch.info.
Of course we can remove the warning, but that doesn't solve the underlying problem.

Just for information, I seem to be getting the exact same warning on at least 1 out of 4 NZBs downloaded from Newzbin too...

The cause is exactly the same: double entries in the NZB.

Hey,

OK, Good to know. Thanks.

I have sent BinSearch an email asking them to please looking into it (along with a link to this thread).

Thanks again,

Interesting..
Hi,

I think only those of certain posters.

There are 3060425 .nzb files with 1 part in our database, and 248396 with 2 parts.
So seems there are doubles in 8% of the cases.

No the "(1/1)" part in the subject indicates there should only be one part.

If the post exists twice in a newsgroup, we indeed mention both msgids in the NZB Binsearch generates.
We do not know which one is the best one either.

Both message-ids do actually exist in the newsgroups:

Probably caused by a broken posting program that does not handle cross-posting
well. (Newsmangler?)

The poster cross-posted to two newsgroups (a.b.teevee and a.b.multimedia).
With a well behaved posting programs, there should only be a single post that
mentions the names of both groups.
Instead there are actually two seperate messages in the newsgroups.

Anyway, we'll probably do an attempt to deduplicate them.
Given that it doesn't affect actual downloading it's not a priority though.

Yours sincerely,

So it's really the posters' fault.

This was more or less the answer that I expected.
The warning as it currently is, isn't very helpful, it just warns.

Unlike 0.5.6, 0.6.0 doesn't warn about missing articles any more.
Instead it just summarizes the result in the History entry.
Maybe we should do the same for the duplicate-article warning too.
In that way you will at least have a hint afterwards, should a download fail.
