Mail sending failed

Postby xyanide » July 5th, 2008, 2:18 pm

I have a synology Diskstation DS-207 NAS which is running linux.
I recently installed 0.4.0RC5 and today the 0.4.0 Final.

The problem i`ve got with the latest version (and the previous ones) is that e-mail sending is not working.
The error i`m getting is:

Code: Select all
2008-07-05 20:11:21,272
ERROR
[email] Failed to authenticate to mail server
.
I`ve got my settings correct, with authentication setup correctly.

Do you guys have a suggestion or a solution for this problem?

Thanks in advanced!

With so little information, there's really nothing much to advise.

Does your email provider allow SMTP mail with authentication (many ISP's do not)?
Did you specify the correct port (most use 119, but not all).
Have you read the Wiki page about email? Specific instructions apply for google-mail.
Test your settings with the TestEmail link on the Connections page.

1. My e-mail provider requires smtp with authentication (ccchosting.nl).
2. I tried port nr 25, and just now i tried port 119. With port 25 sabnzbd gave me the error, but with port 119 the test e-mail command doesn`t load the page, it looks like its stuck? (keeps trying to load).
3. I read the wiki page, it didn`t give me a solution.
4. I did, but it gave me the error
(2008-07-05 20:11:21,272
ERROR
[email] Failed to authenticate to mail server).

One more addition, i`m also using e-mail notification with my NAS and it sends e-mails succesfully (with the same settings).

*Edit* port 119 gives a connection failure:
"2008-07-05 20:58:42,953
ERROR
[email] Failed to connect to mail server".

I was confused about 119 (which is the Usenet port), obviously I should have said 25.

This problem will be hard to solve.
Of course we cannot test compatibility with every mail server on the planet.
Do you have the possibility to try google mail?

What platform (operating system) are you on?
If you do not use the Win32-setup program, do you have all the required Python modules installed?

Hmm thats weird, just tried the google settings (smtp.gmail.com:587). And now the mail sending works.
No need to use my own mail provider now.

Thanks for your help Shypike, problem fixed for me :).
