Need help with sickbeard and sabnzbd postprocessing

Post by Tarom »

Hi guys! I have a problem thats driving me crazy. I don't usually ask questions on forums, I just read guides and figure things out on my own. Well apparently too many guides is bad for you... I read through forum and although I found some similar problems, after 3 days of reading different guides, trying things out in different ways I am so confused ??? So I need a fresh pair of eyes to take a look at my config and explain me what my mistake is.

Confusion only added up after different guides either spoke of sickbeard to sabToSickBeard.exe script or tv to sabToSickBeard.exe script or avoided it at all. Here is my problem, - I am trying to make SAbnzbd + Sickbeard work together. Downloads go great, via a browser (open file, nzb association etc) or Sickbeard (from as many shows as I want, or just selected episodes all is fine) but unfortunately they all get placed into the same folder and just stay there. I have tried so many different things that as you'll see my categories currently left nearly blank because i just don't know what else to put there.

My setup. Windows 7 64, SAB 0.7.9, SickBeard Alpha build 499. Everything is placed locally on the same PC. Sabnzbd has an ip, but Sickbeard runs on localhost. Incompletes for SAB: H:\Garbage, completed files go to D:\Program Files\NewsBin Downloads. Sickbeard is (accordingly to my understanding) is watching D:\Program Files\NewsBin Downloads and then transferring TV content to D:\Program Files\TV Shows (setup as default folder and has folders with different shows added in sickbeard) . D:\Program Files\ also happens to host a number of other dirs - Movies, Anime , Music etc.
Sab part of directories works fine. I followed files from incompletes (H:\Garbage), to completed (D:\Program Files\NewsBin Downloads) but thats where they get stuck. Any help would be much appreciated.

Please do not be quick to point out that my SAB Categories are not filled in completely, they were. I tried more then a few things until i gave up on trying to do it on my own. Since neither of it was working I deleted it all. So my question(s) would be: - Do I need a category 'sickbeard' that calls/uses a script to SabToSickBeard.exe? Or do I need TV category that calls/scripts to SabToSickBeard.exe? Or do I need both? What about my folders, how would I point them giving my setup?

Please be sure to check the screenies below in case something basic slipped my mind.

And another question I have about Sabnzbd. In reference to the screenie below, when the download starts, the optional presets/commands in top right corner (just under the pause button), are they for manual control only (When you decide to DL something on your own (no sickbeard), once the DL started you choose a preset category (TV, music, movies etc) thats already in SAB categories or does it change on its own if SAB recognises a download as TV, movies, music or any other category thats have been preprogrammed ? )

If anyone is willing to give me a hand with this I would be very grateful. Thanks in advance

P.S: I've been over http://wiki.sabnzbd.org/configure-categories so many times I even found an easter egg lol.

It's very time consuming to read through someone's Victorian Novel like descriptions :)
A shorty summary would help.

Some tips.
If you're using SickBeard, do not use SABnzbd's Season Sorting as well for items coming from SickBeard.
SickBeard should assign the TV category to the material it sends to SABnzbd.
So make sure your TV category uses a specific folder and the Sab2Sickbeard script.
Also tell SickBeard which folder SABnzbd will use for TV.
For the other categories you're free to use any folder and any sorting method, as long
as the NZB files do not come from SickBeard.
Assigning categories (except for those coming from SickBeard) usually only work when
the NZB files come from a supported RSS feed.
In that case you still need to map the indexer's category to your own categories.

Thank you for answering. I ll be sure to keep it less Victorian :)

As you suggested, I disabled Series Category Sorting in SAB. Assigned a TV Download Dir in Sickbeard, Post- Processing. Yes, my SabToSickbeard.exe is in separate folder.

Any idea what my Categories setup should be like? (check Categories SAB screen). My problem is I have 2 different categories calling for SabToSickBeard, problem is some guides point to Category 'tv' to SabToSickBeard.exe script only, while wiki.sabnzbd says that category 'sickbeard' needs to call on SabToSickBeard.exe script. And that is what gets me stuck and confused. What would be the correct way of using/calling for SabToSickBeard.exe script?

For SickBeard uses the category TV.
Therefor SAbnzbd needs a TV category as well.
This TV category needs to have a folder (e.g. d:\video\tvshows) and needs to have the Sab2Sickbeard script.
In SickBeard you set the folder to d:\video\tvshows.
I'm not sure about the last part. AFAIK SickBeard uses either the script or it scans a folder for new completed jobs.

Hello again,

I have finally been able to get it working. For the first time it has downloaded, unpacked, renamed and placed TV show (s) in the correct directories. Thank you for your help!

This took a little while to sort out, but i run into a few problems with corrupted AutoProcessTV.cfg. Replacing it with a new one and rebooting PC fixed that too. Tnx.
