Gbit link

Hey!

I just upgraded my connection to 1Gbit but I'm struggling to get the max out of it on Usenet. I just wanted to know if some of you guys has any advice in order to optimize my speeds.

What I have:
- GbE network
- SSD RAID0 SATA II (+/- 400 Mo/s)
- 3GB DDR
- i7 920

In terms of hardware, I don't see any bottleneck. However download speeds decrease drastically when I'm using the drives simultaneously for other tasks which is rather weird.

Now for the link, I can go up to 950 megs on different speedtest servers.

I'm currently using Tweaknews with 30 connections. I got on average 20 Mo/s. I tried to couple Tweaknews with other accounts (Giganews, Newshosting, Newsdeamon) but it does not improve speeds, even worse it usually decrease speeds as I had more and more connections. What I find strange is that connection threads do not remain constantly open. Rather I very often notice that no threads are in use: this translates into throttling bandwidth utilization (it goes to 0 and up again).

Do you have any suggestion that might improve my speeds? I'm getting now +/- 35 Mo/s which is good but still pretty far from the theoretical bandwidth O0

Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure SABnzbd can do the required speed, I don't have the luxury of 1G :)
Have you tried with alternative software?

Yes I tried briefly Newsbin but it looked the same. I'll give Grabit a try.

35 Mo/s = French for 35 MB/s?

I believe 33 MB/s is the highest I got. See http://forums.sabnzbd.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=16460
