I have a 2013 mac mini with SSD and 16gb ram and for me to extract a 2.5GB file to NAS took me 38 minutes - CPU usage at the time was less than <5%

Locally it took <1 minute

I think for now I will just have everything local and copy it to my NAS as required.

osx 10.9 sucks IMO... everything seems worse for me
