I have the same issue...
CA's are installed and up to date:

[/] # opkg install ca-certificates
Package ca-certificates (20170717) installed in root is up to date.

Do I need to tell SabNZBd to look for them in some folder or what?

I've tried this already. Newshosting has 30 sim.conn. I've tried with 5, 7, 8, 10, 15, 20, 30, 25, 23... Same results actually. Yes, I was using 1.2.0 before.
The speed, I've recently changed usenet provider to Newshosting. Here I can get my connection to max out on speed.

Only the issue of erroneous downloads I'm still investigating if it's the usenet provider, my VPN (NordVPN) or just DMCA / NOTD take-downs.

Tried it, still errors and very low speed.

Ok, I've installed version 1.0.3 and I'm downloading with an average of 7-8MB/s!!
