Permission denied when binding port not fatal
Starting sabnzbd+ on a privileged port under a user account that has insufficient rights for this (i.e. non-root) does not cause startup to fail, like it does when coming across similar issues such as the port being in use. As a result, the program will be started without a web interface or api acce...

Re: Responses to api commands via HTTP don't make sense
Shutdown is a tricky one because we can't return a response on whether the shutdown was successful or not as the webserver (cherrypy) is closed in the process. To return a value of success, it has to be the last action in the api function, so we cannot return "ok" then shut down sabnzbd. ...

Responses to api commands via HTTP don't make sense
While working with an init script using wget to shutdown the program, I noticed something strange: return values from wget always indicated failure even though shutdown actually was successful: $ wget --tries=1 -S -v --delete-after "http://127.0.0.1:8080/sabnzbd/api?mode=shutdown"; echo &q...

Re: Free Newsservers
Strange, because SABnzbd is just showing connectons to xsnews and no errors/warnings at all: So if SABnzbd is not reporting it is not being let in by xsnews, is that a bug in SABnzbd? I got similar results earlier (i.e. that same 480... error) using tcpdump; sabnzbd connecting fine and showing this...

Re: Free Newsservers
The xsnews server apparently requires a (free) account, see this page (alleen in het Nederlands :P; sign-up requires only an email address so you should be able to manage nonetheless). Speed at xsnews is capped at 20 Mbit/s, although it takes some time for this limit to kick in. All in all, this bri...

Re: SABnzbd+ Tray Monitor for linux/unix, (windows maybe?)
joncfoo, thanks for looking into the kde stuff. That extra package was already installed, and with a newly created test user the issue remains. Guess it's something specific to my system or it's gtk theme settings then :( By the way, with python 2.4 the program fails to start: $ python2.4 sabnzbd-tr...

Re: licensing stuff: GPL "version 2" vs. "2 or later"
The at your option clause will likely solve all problems, since one can assume that GPL3 is OK too. For clarity I'll add the GPL3 full licence text too. Does this settle your issue? Certainly does, thanks. "You" or "Your" (like in 'at your option') in the GPL simply refers to th...

Re: SABnzbd+ Tray Monitor for linux/unix, (windows maybe?)
Works fine here (on current Ubuntu), nice work! Minor issue: with a semi-transparent taskbar on kde(3), the icon looks like having a gray background (while the actual png image has a transparent background). http://img376.imageshack.us/img376/6243/sabtraycropyk9.png A quick suggestion: make the defa...

Re: licensing stuff: GPL "version 2" vs. "2 or later"
You pointed out an inconsistency, I corrected it. Good to know it's not some principal issues with the GPL v3. Each time you redistribute the Program All the parts of the SABnzbd distribution that have simply been included (excanvas.js, cherrypy2, etc) are NOT PART OF THE PROGRAM. I know, and I agr...

Re: (Unofficial) Ubuntu repository for SABnzbd+
In fact it's even worse, in Ubuntu one needs no less than two demi-gods to approve, and next an actual divinity (archive admin) needs be okay with things too. Add to that sabnzbd+ being a relatively hard one to review, involving python, a large variety of licenses, and low priority it tends to take ...

Re: licensing stuff: GPL "version 2" vs. "2 or later"
In my opinion, the SMPL skin is not a "Derivative Work" of excanvas.js, since we have it in its original separate file, so the term "remain separable from" is valid. There are no "editorial revisions, annotations, elaborations, or other modifications" at all. I agree, ...

Re: licensing stuff: GPL "version 2" vs. "2 or later"
Reading the GPL, version 2, section 2 you find the following: These requirements apply to the modified work as a whole. If identifiable sections of that work are not derived from the Program, and can be reasonably considered independent and separate works in themselves, then this License, and its t...

Re: licensing stuff: GPL "version 2" vs. "2 or later"
With 0.4.2 sabnzbd's license has changed to GPL "v2 only" from "v2 or any later version", forcing me to look into this stuff once more. Unfortunately this license change seems to cause a conflict with interfaces/smpl/templates/static/excanvas/excanvas.js which is subject to the A...

Re: Free Newsservers
More free (IPv6-only) binary newsservers: news.ipv6.eweka.nl Retention 120 days. Unlimited speed. reader.ipv6.xsnews.nl Retention: around 100 days too, speed unknown. Thanks, just what I need now that my provider has discontinued binary news services 8). The eweka one works very nice, I can't but w...
