FYI: Chrome 53 marks HTTP as "not private"

Post by sander »

I expect this will become a FAQ, so I'm posting this so we can refer users to this:

Chrome (starting from 53) now explicitly tells users non-HTTPS sites aren't private: "your connection to this site is not private". See https://certsimple.com/blog/your-connec ... ot-private

So that means Chrome will mark http://127.0.0.1:8080/sabnzbd/ as "not private" with a grey info symbol. Example:

The next steps of Google's plans is: T2: Non-secure origins marked as Non-secure :-*

Advice for users:
- Ignore
- Use another browser
- Use SABnzbd's HTTPS feature, with Chrome set to ignore HTTPS problems. I have posted about that: https://forums.sabnzbd.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=20799 . This only works for 127.0.0.1, not for other (private) IP addresses like 192.168.x.y.
