Free Usenet Access - 1 Week - 200 Days Retention

Post by JPA »

We just turned on a new bank of servers and are hoping to push 10-20
gigabits of test traffic this week.  These servers have 200 days of
articles, both binaries and text.

Please give us a hand by testing things out -

The server is:

stresstest.cheapernews.com

No username/password is required.

SSL is enabled and you should be able to make at least 20 connections
per host.

Sorry, we don't support posting.

We may have a few few-minute outages during the course of the week as
we try different server and/or load balancer configurations, but our plan
is to keep the service up until and through July 4th.

Thanks for helping us out!

Sounds like an excellent find for those of who don't already have a premium service. 200days is unheard of for free newsservers isnt it?

$4/month for "200 days retention, unlimted download, 20 connections" sounds too good to be true. Anyone tried them before?
I am currently on astraweb's $11/month deal, and paying 1/3 of that for the same service wouldn't bother me :)

Look closely, their plans have speed limits. Hence why the price is so low.

fair enough, but even the uncapped $6/month plan is ~ halfprice of astraweb. I don't know about you guys, but it's not often I need to download stuff that is older then 200 days...

They also have a speed cap of 1meg/sec for all their plans. Since I have a 6meg dsl connection I wouldn't see any kind of speeds that I consider decent. I will stick with Astraweb and their $11/mo deal for the ability to max out my connection instead.

1megs/sec per connection and you get 4 connections so speedlimit from "Medium-Use UNLIMITED Plan" is 4megs per sec. the unlimited user I can't find the speedlimit
