New Forum System finally launched

Post by inpheaux »

Hi everyone, I just completed our migration from SimpleMachines to phpBB. All your old accounts still work, all your old posts have been preserved, this will just help us keep up to date with forum software (SMF's upgrade procedure is a nightmare), and will hopefully provide us with a more stable forum system so we can focus on answering your questions rather than spending all our time doing forum administration.

Some settings were lost during the migration, but luckily they're all on one page for you to go fix, assuming you need to fix them.
  1. Go over to User Control Panel -> Board Preferences
  2. Set your Language. Default is English, but we also have French and Dutch since those are the languages we do support in.
  3. Set your Timezone and Time Display preference. This may have reset during the migration.
  4. While you're on the page, review the two email settings at the top: "Users can contact me by e-mail" and "Administrators can e-mail me information". We occasionally send out release notifications by email, so you may want to keep that one turned on.
  5. Under Edit posting defaults you'll probably also want to turn off "Notify me upon replies by default", so we don't send you a jillion emails. (I might just disable this outright)
To my knowledge there isn't anything severely broken right now, the only thing I've found is that the old "MOVED: ~~~" topics that indicated we moved a thread to another sub-forum no longer work, because they depend on old SMF-specific bbcode.

If you can find anything that's broken, please let me know here.

Nicely done, much better.

Though any link point to a moved topic/post is point to the wrong link.

Example: http://forums.sabnzbd.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=8053

I also highly recommend you install Anti-Spam ACP @ http://lithiumstudios.org/forum/viewtop ... 94411950f2

Took me five minutes to manually install it (automod sucks) and works great.

@inpheaux, impressive work. Thanks.

Hopefully all the strange bugs (layout, picture file size) and the spammers are gone now.

Question: how can I post a picture (from my harddisk) into the forum? I only see an option "Img" to post a [glow]link[/glow] to an image ...

And how can I post an attachment?

And a request:

In the old forum, the originator of update mails was: "SABnzbd+ Forums" <[email protected]>. My gmail account will show "SABnzbd+ Forums" as originator. That's good.

Now, it's just <[email protected]>. Gmail will just show "forum" as originator, which is not very helpful.

So, can the original, full originator name come back please?

I dropped attachment support with this upgrade. If you need to upload stuff there's a huge variety of perfectly good image hosts like imgur.com. They'll even spit out bbcode for you, I believe.

I'm not sure if that's customizable, but I'll take a look.

When clicking on "View unread posts", there is an option to "Mark forums read" on the top left.
Unfortunatly, this url goes to http://forums.sabnzbd.org/ instead of http://forums.sabnzbd.org/index.php?has ... ark=forums

Known issue. I've tried bringing the variable needed to get the hash data onto the search page, but I've yet to get it to work.

@inpheaux, I have a wish:

In the "Topic reply notification"-mail itself I would like to see the message that has been posted, and the name of the poster. (Now it's a standard mail with link(s) to the thread.)
That way I could already in mail see how relevant the new post is, and it would make my mailbox more 'searchable' on forum posts.

The ubuntuforums.org already does that.

So: it this possible on the SAB forum?

Thanks,
Sander

With all the Russian / Ukraine / Cyrillic spammers now active on the forum, I really would like to have this phpBB mod active:

http://dangerousprototypes.com/docs/Php ... post_count

Let's set the minimum post count to 10 so that spammers can't put in an URL in their posts, meaning the spam would have no value for them.

This would be useful too:
Disable sleeper agents
User with 0 posts after minimum account age will be prohibited from posting, signatures, and profiles.
Unicode REGEX filter

Code: Select all

/([\x{0400}-\x{04FF}]|[\x{0600}-\x{06FF}])+/u

Would it be possible to enable rss feeds for the various forums?
