sabnzbd suddenly stops downloading and status is waiting

I don't know when this started but sometimes sab just suddenly stops downloading the current nzb file and will turn its status to waiting. The number of connections will turn to 0 under status. Pausing and resuming it will not do anything. What I have to do is shutdown sab and open it back and everything works properly again. This has been happening randomly for the past two versions of sab. What is wrong? I have lots of space, still, on my hard disk.

If it's 0.7.8, upgrade asap.

Do you see any warnings?
Did you enable the quota system in Config->Switches?

Enable "debug" logging on the Status page.
Download an NZB until it stops again.
Open the log file from the Status page and look for suspect messages
going from bottom to top.

No warning and quota system isn't disabled.

Alright, I will try debug logging first and will get back to you. Thanks.

EDIT: Oh I just noticed that I already enabled +Debug in the Status>Logging page and there is no single entry there?

What's my next step?

Do you have more than one newsserver enabled? If so, reduce to 1 newsserver.

Nope, only 1 newsserver, Newshosting.

Otherwise, try another browser, just to be sure it's not a browser issue.

Ok. What is the possible cause of this?

I don't think it's the browser because even the taskbar icon has problems when this happens. It is green but the download speed is 0.

Icon says downloading, but the top item in the queue says waiting?
Are you sure it's not individually paused (it should have an arrow sign in front of it)?

Have you tried restarting SABnzbd or (as a last resort) do a "Repair" on Status->QueueRepair?

Not the top of the queue, all of the items are in waiting status.
I'm positive that they are not paused.

When I restart sab, everything works fine again until it randomly stops again. I did a queue repair already but have to monitor if it fixed it or not.

here's my set up so we're clear..
Latest sabnzbd running as service on Windows 2012 server standard on Amd fx4100 quad core /16g ram, more than enough drive space on sabnzb install folder and downloads folder... 100's of free gb on both.
Use to send nzb's to queue Sickbeard (latest version) Newznab (latest free use version) (spot web) all running on same IP on same machine. also use sabnzbd firefox extention to send nzb's to queue.

No matter nzb source all downloads stop downloading, browser title bar says "Paused" w/ XXX MB left X nzbs in queue, each item in queue statys shows "Waiting" ... I have restarted the service multiple times, repaired the queue... restarting the service occationally starts downloading queued items immediately but not always. With in the hour sabnzbd reverts back to "Paused" with "waiting" status on all queue items... Ive tried manually pausing then unpausing each item with no result what so ever.

Adding new items succesfully adds item to queue how ever they just sit in "waiting" state...
I have also cleanly reinstalled the current verion as well as reverted to previous version, always it works but fails with same message. I am completely stumped. obviously these are the same problem... resulting in sabnzb does not work as advertised...
please any suggestion...

Turn on "Debug" logging on the Status page.
Add one NZB and let it download until it stops.
Then check the end of the log for error messages (downloadable from the Status page).
