Recommended Article Cache Limit for 50mbps connection?

Post by Brungle »

Hello,

Firstly thanks for the great work on sabnzbd it realy is a great app. I've been using it for a about a month now and very happy with it, its so much easier than grabit.

So I've recently upgraded to a 50mbps connection and was wondering if I need to tweak sabnzbd at all to et the best out of the recent change? speed wise everything seems ok, but I was wondering if I should be changing the cache settings?

I've got 4gb ram and my primary HDD is a samsung f1 1tb 7200rpm 32mb cache.

Currently I have Article Cache Limit: set at 120 is this correct?

thanks for your time

The speed isn't the determining factor.
The cache size depends on the average size of the files you download.
Suppose your downloads consist mostly of 50M rar-files, you should set your cache to about 70M.
The cache should keep the articles in memory until all articles are in and the file can be written to disk.
Without caching each articles requites three disk accesses (write, read, write) instead of one (write).

If you filled in 120, this is a bit small: just 120 bytes!
You should set it to 120M.

Mine is set to the default 0, does this mean that it will cache as much as necessary? Or that it will not cache at all?

Also, are there any hardware specifications I should keep in mind when setting the cache amount? I have sabnzbd running on an old ibook G4 1.4Ghz 1GB RAM.
Thanks

0 is the default, and means it will not cache any articles in RAM, but store them on your hard drive instead.

If you can spare the ram, then you can set the article cache to a value such as 70M, however with only 1GB of ram total it might not be worth it.
