Very slow unpacking SabNZBD 1 OS X

Post by gnomehole »

I have been running sabnzbd on Windows for years and am switching to Mac OS X for everything in my home.

One thing I notice is that my PC can unpack a file connected to my Synology NAS very quickly, but my newly installed 1.0 version [a58bb38] of Sabnzbd takes perhaps 50x as long.

I've verified its an SMB 3.0 connection to the NAS. Copying files via OS X to the NAS is not slow. It seems to only be the unpacking process within Sabnzbd that is slow.

I also noticed a file had password protection and it took over a half hour to clean up and stop processing that file. Same passworded file on my PC took just a minute.

Is there anything I can do to test this or otherwise speed it up? IT doesn't seem to be a connectivity issue to the NAS, but something in the processing.

Here is an example: a 3gb unpack just took 20 minutes to complete.. then of course it had to "move" the file (rename the directory from _UNPACK) and it took another 20 minutes to complete that part.

As a follow-up, I switched to a local drive on my Mac and its just as slow... eliminating the NAS as the source of the issues.

Trying to go back to previous version of SABnzbd but doesn't appear to be all that simple... :(

In SAB 1.0.0, under Glitter, in the upper right corner, click on the wrench symbol: "Status and interface options".

In the popup, right of "Download folder speed", click on the refresh symbol. Now copy all info from that block into this thread, just like this

System Performance (Pystone) 79936 Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU …
Download folder speed 60.6 MB/s (/home/sander/Downloads/i…)
Complete folder speed 59.4 MB/s (/home/sander/Downloads/c…)

FWIW, its a Mac mini server 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7, 16GB, RAID 1.

System Performance (Pystone)71746

Complete folder speed103.8 MB/s (/Users/jd/Documents)

Both processing about same speed.

There you have it ... speed is 2.2 MB/s to Complete folder ... that's extremely slow.

That is not a SAB problem.

Solution/workaround: use a real local disk. Apparently both your USB en NAS disk access speed are low.

Hmmm, I changed to the Users/Documents folder which is a real local drive and had same results. I will try again and reboot between just to be sure things are fully changed over. (no USB drive)

I also re-mapped my NAS drive and got better results (56 MB/s) and will test that... hopefully both are fixed but will report back if I find anything to the contrary. Thanks!
