SSL Check fails for Newshosting

Post by gibby82 »

Greetings,

This morning I noticed my downloads were failing and came to find that I was getting this error for both the newshosting and easynews servers (partner account for easynews).

[Errno 10061] Failed to connect: Server news.newshosting.com uses an
untrusted certificate [[SSL: CERTIFICATE_VERIFY_FAILED] certificate
verify failed (_ssl.c:661)] -[email protected]:563

Seeing other similar issues on the forum, I contacted Easynews first. They can't reproduce and say the issue is on my end. So now I'm here to ask for next steps.

I've uninstalled, rebooted, tried port 443, reset winsock, and a few other things. Disabling the check allows SSL to connect on 443/563, and the non-SSL ports work fine.

Sab is running on a VMware VM, guest OS Server 2008 R2, on ESXi 6.0. Everything was working up until 1/31/17 as far as I can tell.

* What are the next steps for troubleshooting?
* Let me know if more info is needed

Thanks!

https://www.appelboor.com/newsservers/n ... h-SSL.html will tell you news.newshosting.com is Triple OK.
https://www.appelboor.com/cgi-bin/check ... osting.com will tell the same.

So news.newshosting.com is correct; the problem is on your side.

There was another Windows user with such a problem, and he re-installed root-certificates. Here's his post:

Hello mate,

Did you find a solution? I had exactly the same issue also Windows10 and found the solution at community.spiceworks.com I can't post link but if you search for "Missing or invalid root certificates on Windows 7 64bit" in google it should be the first result.

Basically just Manually install the certificates as follows;

1. Download rootsupd.exe from the microsoft link

2. Extract the files using the command rootsupd.exe /c /t:C:\temp\extroot

3. from c:\temp\extroot run the following 4 commands (from an elevated prompt)

updroots.exe authroots.sst

updroots.exe updroots.sst

updroots.exe -l roots.sst

updroots.exe -d delroots.sst

Had to follw it precisely to get the install to work ok. Running from a different location or using "c:\temp\extroot\updroots.exe authroots.sst" as the command didn't work. Had to "cd" into the folder first for some reason.

I believe this client was on Ubuntu at the time, and a physical machine. I created a Server 2008 R2 VM and it has worked perfectly since. Somewhere along the line the Ubuntu instance just got hosed.

Hi, just posting this here in case someone comes across it. I was getting this error too and it was because NewsHosting had changed their SSL port. Once I added the new port to the SABnzb config and refreshed the connection, life was good again.

Are you sure? I'm using the "SSL secured" Port 563 as mentioned in my newshosting control panel. But still get this error:
