Unrar

Post by wally3218 »

I don’t know why but when sabnzb starts to unrar a large file it takes for ever and uses 100% disk usage
Does anyone else have this problem and any ideas what I need to do.
Thanks for any help and suggestions

SAB only calls unrar-application to do the job, it's really highly optimized by the creators.
It is most likely something on your system:
Virusscanner (exclude temporary download location from scanning)
Bad sectors on disk (try other disk)
Try setting 'Pause downloading during post-processing' in Config > Switches.

That's a long time!
and uses 100% disk usage
Disk full? Is your disk too small?
Don't you mean 100% CPU?

unrar is a lightweight process. With Direct Unpack it often happens during the download, and there is no extra time involved at all.

Wait: you're not confusing unrar (unpacking) with par2 (=repairing), I hope? par2 is heavy, takes time and takes CPU power.

After a download, you can see the numbers: in History, on the far right, there is a down-arrow. If you click on it, you get the statistics. For example:
DownloadDownloaded in 2 mins 21 seconds at an average of 4.8 MB/s
Age: 164d
Serversnewszilla.xs4all.nl=23 KB, news.solani.org=24 KB, newszilla6.xs4all.nl=23 KB, newsreader3.eweka.nl=676.7 MB
Repair[bigrandomfile-666MB.bin] Quick Check OK
Unpack[bigrandomfile-666MB.bin] Direct Unpack - Unpacked 1 files/folders in 11 seconds
So 0 seconds repair (=par2), 11 seconds unpack (=unrar).

So, with your for-ever-100%-disk space download ... what are the statistics?
