Speed Help

Post by crabcola »

Noob here, as evidenced by the fact I posted this help question in a general discussion thread at first.

I'll keep it simple. My current DL speed is over 900 mb/s with my UL speed over 100 mb/s.
My max download on Sab is 2.5 mb/s. I've never had this issue before, and it only started a few days ago. Maxes out at 2.5. Can anyone help me out, please???

What is your speed on https://fast.com/ ?

On what hardware is SABnzbd running?

So: plain download speed at fast.com is 900 Mbps and then 510 Mbps ... ? Sounds wobbly, and thus not good.

Anyway: I would advice a fresh setup: https://sabnzbd.org/wiki/faq#freshstart

Apologies for the confusion. The 900 came from the speedtest app when I made my original post. The 500 seems to be pretty consistent each time I use the link you provided.

Thank you so much, I will try starting over.

Just checking back in. Fresh start didn't help, either. Fast.com speed test still hovering around 500 mb/s. I don't know what to do other than reach out to Giganews, and see if it may be with them.

If Giganews can't solve it, also try another newsprovider, for example the free 750 GB trial https://www.newshosting.com/usenet/partners/sabnzbd , or visit https://www.reddit.com/r/usenet/new and buy a block account for a few dollars (the current offers are amazing)

Added a backup usenet provider and STILL getting the same download speed. Giganews support was unable to resolve the issue. Any other ideas?? This is crazy. Should I connect thru my VPN??

Will do. For reference, there's a user in the General Discussion board describing the exact same issue I'm having... even the 2.5 mb/s thing. He claims he tried a different reader and didn't have the speed cap.

Saw a little improvement using VPN connection. Jumped around a lot, but spiked as high as 6 MB/s towards the end of the test download. Strange times.

@sander I am getting 160 MB/s with consistency on a different reader. Without connecting thru VPN. That's a pretty startling difference, and seems to indicate SAB as the variable here. I'd love to get this figured out if you wouldn't mind continuing to help.

crabcola - did you ever resolve this?
I am noticing the same 2.5 MB/s cap as you and the other user RichKK, which seems too suspicious to be a coincidence. One twist is that the cap only occurs when I use a certain router (details in are in my post titled "Downloading slow with ASUS RT-N66U Router").
