Slow downloads speeds of only 1.7MB/s on new laptop.

Post by jase237t »

Hi all,

I am getting really slow downloads of only 1.7mbs on my new laptop. Its an intel i3 with 500g SSD, 8g ram.

I have had a remote engineer from virgin gadget support who has optimised the cpu, opened up the ports tweaknews use 443 563 and basically spent over an hour on the machine, but still only getting 1.7mbs. it doesnt matter if hard wired or wireless, its the same. The SAB set up is the same as was before on my old laptop, but even that managed to get 4.4mbs. This is so frustrating and the engineer asked me to see if I can get help here as my laptop and internet is extremely good now he has optimised everything and can do nothing more his end or on my router to help.

My Son's Xbox upstairs is getting at least 10mbs downloading and the laptop download speed is 100mbs as just testing it today too.

I'm not technical, but wonder if anyone can help me please?

Thanks for your time,

Jase.

Hi and sorry late reply! Yes Just tried that at peak time 1603pm and got 37mbs. Took to my brothers house who has 200g pipe and still 1.7 on here wired or wireless. been running a lot faster at 4.4 mbs on my old laptop and 6mbs wired on that device. Only on sabnzb am i seeing this. I use teaknews and have a 50mbs limit.

Soooo frustrating!

Any ideas that may help?

Many thanks,

Jase

37 Mbps is about 3.7 MB/s. SABnzbd reports in MB/s, so your 1.7 MB/s is low, but not very bad compared to your 3.7 MB/s

200Gbps does not exist. 1Gbps does exist. Please get your facts correct.

About your 1.7 MB/s:
- what is the number of newsserver connections?
- I hope you have not limited your speed in SABnzbd

Hi Sander,

It was 8 so I have changed it to 30. As initial post I am not technical as you have observed. Percentage of line speed was 0, now set at 30 max speed is 20mbs.

My Brothers line is 200 mb, sorry about that mine is 100 :(

Is there anything else that I should try or look at. Is it my SAB settings? Is there any trustworthy source that could remote on an help/fix, or anything else to suggest?

I really appreciate your time.

Regards,

Jase

Dear Sander,

AHA! It's now running faster so will tweak the settings I just made.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction as didnt reset anything when I rebuilt everything on my new laptop.

Have a great weekend and thanks again!

Jase.
