I'm assuming you use SABnzbd 3.0.0 or 3.0.1. If not, do so.

Then:
Make sure SAB is not downloading.
In SABnzbd's upper right corner, click on the wrench symbol ("Status and interface options"), then click on first tab Status, and there click on the Refresh Circled Arrow. SAB will do some calculations.

What is the result at Internet Bandwidth ?

OK cool, I am on 3.0.2 and there is no spanner to the top right. There is one on the top left but I don't see the "Status and interface" options Is it different on 3.0.2? Thanks

No wrench/spanner? Oh, are you using the old grey/black/yellow interface called Plush? Then go to http://127.0.0.1:8080/sabnzbd/status/ -> tab Dashboard. Click on "Repeat Test" ... but that does not show the Internet Speed, which we need.

Are you willing and able to switch to new interface called Glitter? If so, you can do that via http://127.0.0.1:8080/sabnzbd/config/general/ -> "Web interface" and in the drop down select "Glitter Default", and then Save Changes. After SAB's restart you should see the Wrench symbol in the upper right corner

(You can always later on switch back to Plush ... but I personally I find Plush old-fashioned)

OK, good: that is about the Internet speed you told (40 Mbps).

Now we have to find why your News speed is only 600KB/s (which is about 6 Mbps), so only 1/6 of what you should get: which newsserver do you use? How many connections? SSL or no SSL?

And, what are the measurements in the Wrench symobol for:
CPU speed
Disk speed Incomplete & Complete?

1. secure.usenetserver.com
2. # Connections 0/8
3. SSL Yes
Can't see the CPU or Disk things, where are they on the wrench? Status?

Yes: In SABnzbd's upper right corner, click on the wrench symbol ("Status and interface options"), then click on first tab Status, and there click on the Refresh arrow, and you get the CPU and disk speeds. Post them here.

I think it's best to get an (block?) account at another newsprovider, and test your speed against them. Check out https://www.reddit.com/r/usenet/wiki/pr ... iki_blocks

Can you try this: set each newsserver to 20 connections, and try again.

Worth checking:

As you're connecting from NZ to servers in EU and US: What are your ping times to the newsservers?

From EU to EU: 2 ms:

Code: Select all

[email protected]:~$ ping eunews.blocknews.net
PING blocknews-fr.sslusenet.com (185.90.196.80) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 185.90.196.80 (185.90.196.80): icmp_seq=1 ttl=58 time=2.22 ms
64 bytes from 185.90.196.80 (185.90.196.80): icmp_seq=2 ttl=58 time=2.29 ms
64 bytes from 185.90.196.80 (185.90.196.80): icmp_seq=3 ttl=58 time=2.23 ms

rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 2.226/2.252/2.298/0.063 ms

From EU to US: 81 ms:
