Slow download speed, Tested with all my machines

Post by HHC_Skylar »

Hi, I’ve been joining usenet for a month, currently using Eweka Unlimited Speed and N z b . s u as indexer.
At first I setup NZBGet and Sabnzbd as docker container in R220, sadly the fastest speed I get is 30MB from Sabnzbd and 25MB from NZBGet which had never reach the speed I pay for (500 Mbps).

I did some research and realize that disk IO may causes the bottleneck of download speed, so today I moved downloaders to a new custom build unraid machine but get much slower speed (15MB and drop to 7-8MB immediately).

So I did some test as below to find out the difference:

• R220 (E3 1220v3, DDR3 32G, Raid 0 250GB*2) : docker
in ubuntu
-> 30MB

• Synology DS218+ : docker

-> 30MB

• Intel nuc10i7 PVE (DDR4 2666 32G, 250GB SSD): ubuntu LXC

-> 10MB

• Intel nuc10i7 PVE (DDR4 2666 32G, 250GB SSD) : docker
in ubuntu VM
-> 10MB

• Unraid (i5-8400, 125GB ssd cache only)
 docker
-> 10MB (this is the one I plan to host downloader in future)

• Unraid (i5-8400, 125GB ssd cache only)
 ubuntu vm
-> 10MB

• Macbook pro 15” late 2016

-> 30MB

All tested with SABnzbd (mostly use built-in speed test and some series files from 1G-10G) and NZBget (series files from 1G-10G) and both get similar result, I have tried everything I can find (connections from 1-50, Article Cache Limit, Direct Unpack, SSL on-off, port 563, 443, 119…etc) but nothing work.

I am pretty sure I must miss something because all the machines are connected to the same switch and router (usw 24 enterprise and udmp), so even if they cant reach 500mbps they should all have similar speed, right?
Btw, ping time to "n e w s . e w e k a . n l" and "n e w s r e a d e r . e w e k a . n l" are both 249ms~255ms.

Please help me, thanks!!

When you do the Speedtest in sabnzbd Status window, what does it give?
And, if you do for example speedtest.net from any of your machines, what do you get?
If those all give you 60MB/s / 500 MBps, then I would suggest trying a different provider. For example the free retail of our sponsor Newshosting, just to see if it makes a difference.

Hi, thanks for the help!
Internet Bandwidth in 'Status and interface options' details:
  • R220 : just keep loading and can't see the result
    Unraid : 4.8 MB
    Intel NUC docker in Ubuntu VM : 4 MB
    DS218+ docker : 5.7MB
I assume all of them can't reach 500mbps, but still don't understand how to optimize the Unraid machine so I can get 30MB at least.
I also set up speedtest-tracker docker container in each machine and get 480-520 most of time.

It's a lot of VM's/dockers, is there a way to run it directly on the unraid server?
