Setup Differences btw XP and Vista 64bit

Post by SeT »

I'm about to build a new file/media server and am wondering if there are any sabnzbd setup differences between XP and Vista 64bit to keep in mind, particularly surrounding setting up sabnzbd to run as a service (currently works fine using the srvany method).

tia.

Why installing xp or vista as a media/file/download server if i may ask? I also have a download/file/media server but i use ubuntu server. I have used xp before on the server but ubuntu server is just way faster with everything...

DeXeS,
Basically, I'm a lot more familiar with Windows than Linux.  I run Ubuntu on a couple of older notebooks, but am not comfortable enough with it to trust my music/vids/pics with.  I certainly am not looking to start some kind of OS discussion... It's just a matter of practicality.  This box will be a file-media server / dvr, and I have _very_ little spare time to spend setting up Ubuntu to do the things I already know how to do on XP.  Who knows, I may end up switching to Mythbuntu or the like, but for now, I'm taking the path of least resistance.  :)

ok, np.

As far as i know, the only different between xp and vista is that the sabnzbd+ user files are in a different place:
xp: c:\documents and settings\user\application data\sabnzbd\sabnzbd.ini
Vista: c:\Users\user\AppData\Local\sabnzbd\sabnzbd.ini
and does not work on vista if you have ZoneAlarm installed.

anyone else has something to add? if not, just install it and if it doesn't work correct, ask on the forum what to do next or install vista on a virtual machine for a test install...

I do test on a (VMWare) Vista64 system.
Not really heavy testing, but I scan the basic functionality.
So far I have seen no problems with Vista (apart from some ipv6 stuff which needed fixing).

But re: my original question... is there any difference in setting sabnzbd+ as a service under Vista?

Not that I'm aware of, but I have not tested it myself under Vista.
