I too am experinceing similar speed reductions. I have limited to one server with 7 connections and I can bounce from 3 to 7 Mbps, however prior to the update i was consistantly around 10Mbps. Any help of alterations to the "optimization" that was done in the new release should be looked at.
Thanks

update:

I've changed my VM instance.
Although my VM was given 4GB memory I did not 'reserve' memory and it seems that this is causing sabnzbd to perform different compared to my 1st working sabnzbd instance. Right now I am downloading up to / 16MB/s even after x hours of inactivity of the host. This is a different behaviour compared to 2 days ago. I have not a lot of knowledge about VMWARE ESXI but it seems that although Linux thinks it has 4GB memory it actually does not get it when needed.

So it might be a VM configuration issue.

Will keep track about it for some more time.

update (evening) ..
I've consulted some vmware experts on my memory behaviour of my VMWARE server. I was totally shocked that I had totally misconfigured most of my VM's. Most of them had to much memory. The server has 16GB, total configured memory was 31GB !! . oeps. I took the evening to modify all settings of my VMS's including the 2 servers with sabnzbd ..
To my surprise I lowered the totaly amount of memory for the machine improving the speed even more.. I saw 18MB/s .. whops ..

So .. I do not think there is (I even did not think there was) an issue with sabnzbd, but more that the VM installation is not configured correctly with its available, reserved and used memory.

glad I found this thread ... my wired connection is capable of 12 MB/s

vpn off = 12 MB speeds
vpn on = 200 KB/s speeds max
reduced server connections from 20 to 5
vpn on = 7 MB speeds, I'm happy with that.

Upgrade to 2.0.0RC1. That version is super old.

Glad I found this thread:

I'm using 2.0.1 and have this same issue: "When the VPN is connected <8 connections = Fast, >=8 connection = Slow. When the VPN is disconnected it is all fast."

So sticking with 7 connections for now!
