download_dir cannot be changed - Windows 10

Post by telijah »

SAB ver 3.0.2 [51cc765], on Windows 10

If I use the web interface, I can change the directory and save, but when I leave that window and return, it is back to the default "incomplete". If I shutdown SAB, manually edit sabnzbs.ini to a different directory, once I load SAB again it changes it back to "incomplete". I am changing it to a different internal drive and folder (E:\Active) and I do not believe permissions is an issue as the complete_dir is a subfolder and seems to be working just fine (E:\Active\Completed). If it matters, default base folder is C:\Users\[username]

Could you try it in a different browser, like Edge? It could just as well be auto complete overwriting your manual inputs.

I can try but am almost certain this is not the case. I shut down SAB and close the browser. Edit the ini manually in Notepad++. If I leave the ini open after saving it, when I launch the SAB executable, Notepad++ notifies me the file has been changed and when it reloads, "incomplete" is back in for download_dir.

I confirmed, I did what I mentioned above and "incomplete" is filled in as soon as I launch the SAB executable. I did try another browser, and after selecting the new folder, I hit Save Changes and Notepad++ immediately tells me the file has been updated, and when it reloads, "incomplete" is back in for download_dir again

It must be something on your device triggering this.. Maybe some plugin, or other software. You can enable Debug logging in the Status window and then after it happens again, click Show Logging.
It will show you what made the request to change the download folder.
You could also change your API key and see what happens.

A plug-in doesn't make sense. The only time I use Edge is precisely in situations like this. I've never installed any plugin. As mentioned, the complete_dir is not impacted by this what so ever and is a sub folder of the directory I am trying to set for download_dir. However, I do agree it is something on my end, was more hoping others had experienced this before and had more advice.

I will activate debugging and check again though to see what it is. Thanks!

OK, I closed all browsers, shutdown SAB, manually edited the ini, and then re-launched only the app (did not even open a browser), and the ini is over-written and download_dir is set to "incomplete" again... below is an excerpt from the log once I launched SAB again

Hmm, strange. Does it work when you select a different folder? For example just put "test", to see if relative folders work.

Good idea, and yes, I typed "test" and Save Changes. I confirmed a "test" folder was created in my C:\Users\[USER] directory. I left the folder settings view and went back and "test" remained. I then clicked the button to change the folder again and when I choose the folder on the other drive I've been trying, hit Save Changes, leave then come back and "incomplete" is back...

Does the folder already exist? If not, can you create it?
If yes, can you remove it and let sabnzbd create it?
If it was permissions problem, I would have expected and error.

Yes it is already created. As stated previously, the completed directory (E:\Active\Completed) is a sub directory of the folder I am trying to use for pending (E:\Active). If it were permissions, I would have assumed the completed folder setting would have problems as well but it does not.

I did go ahead and removed the E:\Active directory, went back to the Folders settings and put E:\Active for incomplete and E:\Active\Completed for completed, and it does create the directory tree, but when I leave and come back to the Folders screen, "incomplete" is back in the incomplete setting....................... grr

I don't think you can make the complete directory a sub-directory of the incomplete directory.
Could you try to make it 2 really seperate directories?
Like E:\Active\incomplete and E:\Active\Completed

Well, that worked oddly enough. That said then, I am stopping here, this is a reallllly strange requirement if it was by design.

So I checked the code and the incomplete and complete folder can't be on the same path like that because we often have scan and bookkeeping tasks that check the directory. If there's something in there we don't expect (like the Complete directory) it breaks the bookkeeping. Especially because it also has download related files inside it.
