Issue/bug with stuck download

Post by sunnyd24 »

Hi all,

I think I have suffered a bug in SABnzbd, whilst downloading and this has left 4 days of downloads queuing, please can you review the logs below and find what caused the issue/bug?

SABnzbd version: 3.2.1
Windows 10

Sorry can't add links yet, added spaces to url. File names obfuscated to ********FILENAME*********.

Code: Select all

https pastebin com/fAg2QZsg
Then it started queuing other jobs but never started them, and kept doing this in between each new queue item, and seems it was stuck in some loop.

Code: Select all

https pastebin com/Vkf4YGTN
The file was downloaded and unpacked successfully, as per history detail below:

Code: Select all

https pastebin com/iZsR1TX1
I restarted the SABnzbd service, and this had no effect.
So then I attempted to delete the stuck download from the queue, and it took several attempts to before succeeding.

Once deleted the queued items starting downloading, but needed manual intervention.

Hopefully a bug fix can be implemented to resolve this.

Meanwhile, Is there anyway stuck downloads like this can be automatically be removed/deleted from queue after say 3 hours of trying?

Thanks.
Sunny

Can you reproduce it? So: if you re-download it, does it get stuck again?
If so, can you try with an older version of SABnzbd, for example version 3.1.0? Get it from https://github.com/sabnzbd/sabnzbd/releases/tag/3.1.0

Thanks Sander, I will definetly try downloading that file again to see if it gets stuck in queue again.
However, do I really need to test with an older version? It seems a lot of work to try with another version, setup/config, and redownload.

Yes, because the hypothesis is that the stuck-download bug was introduced in a recent verion of SABnzbd. And the hypothesis is: some race condition, with multiple newsservers, where a lost post is hanging on a certain newsserver.

And: no setup/config needed. Yes stop SAB, install SAB 3.1.0, start it, download the post ...

PS: set SABnzbd's logging to +Debug

@sunnyd24 you can also share the NZB via pastebin ... so that I can see if I can reproduce (which I doubt, but you never know)

@Sander
Manually added to queue the nzb in question and it downloaded and processed successfully (with the same version of software 3.2.1) . It didn't have anything in queue before or after download (so not fully recreating scenario).

Should I still try an earlier build?

How should I send you the nzb via pastebin? Copy contents of nzb text?

If you cannot reproduce with 3.2.1 with the same newsserver settings, no need to try lower version. Until / unless you bump into it again ... then start using SAB 3.1.0 to see if that is OK.

But that makes it an intermittent problem ... not great for analysis.

How many newsservers do you have defined & active?

NunyaBzness wrote: April 20th, 2021, 11:59 pm I'm seeing a very similar issue, generally on downloads that will ultimately fail. It's unclear (to me) whether this is due to issues with the new configuration (rebuilt VMs following a RAID failure) or a genuine issue with 3.2.1. I don't want to derail this thread, but I'm happy to provide additional insight if that's valuable.

One other issue is that I'm seeing a tremendous number of "1 article" errors that I've never seen in 5+ years of using SAB... That said, the entire configuration is utterly new this past weekend...
No, not similar; this thread is about getting stuck.
I've moved your topic to a separate thread: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=25338

@sander
Ok, if issue occurs again, I will try a lower version, but seems intermittent.
I have 7 news servers defined, but only 2 active, with one at priority 0 (unlimited), and one at priority 1 (block).

I think I have traced my issue with this to SAB hanging when it starts downloading something and then at a point along the download realises that it cannot write the file to the target location because the particular format of the location does not allow files over a certain size. In my case a SANDISK nail drive formatted default with FAT.

If you use a complete folder that's on fat, it should tell you that during startup. Although not when you use Category folders.

I am on Mac, so my temp file on the boot drive, but my complete folder is just of recent on these nail drives. I usually use an external USB drive formatted as a Mac drive but I have been having some SMART errors showing up on it lately, so switched to these itty bitty SANDISK which are super except that I didn't reformat them before using them. I have one new one left so will reformat and see then if I have the same problem and report back.

A nice first test would be the 10GB download: In SABnzbd's upper right corner, click on the wrench symbol ("Status and interface options"), then click on first tab Status, and there click on "Test download" 10GB.

10GB is well above the 4.2GB FAT limit, so a good test.
