Growl on OSX Lion in 0.6.9

Post by stevef »

Thanks, I got my menu bar icon back now, but growl for it has stopped working - I am not getting any notifications at all. Have checked all is still on in Growl and also rebooted, but still nothing. Am I again missing something? Thanks.

We're a bit behind with maintenance of the website.
The SourceForge download page has a README that explains the two DMG files,
but you won't see that if you're using our download buttons.
However: once you load the DMG it shows clearly "Leopard/SnowLeopard" or "Lion".

I can confirm that Growl support has stopped working with the new Lion version.
Still under examination.

The repair was easy.
The Growl support library was not installed on the Lion build system :(
I've uploaded a new Lion DMG to SourceForge.
https://sourceforge.net/projects/sabnzb ... zbd-0.6.9/

You may want to wait an hour or so until SourceForge's distribution system has transferred the file to all its mirrors.

Has this really been fixed? I downloaded the Lion DMG linked above and I still can't get Growl notifications to work reliably. If I reinstall Growl, it'll work for a liitle while then simply stop working. Is it working for others?

Can't be sure yet, but this may be a Growl problem, not a problem with SABNZB. Digging around on the Growl forums I found out that I could get it working by using Activity Monitor to quit the GrowlHelperApp process and then restarting it with the Growl preference pane (stopping it with the pref pane didn't work). No idea why this seems to have stuck when reinstalling Growl and rebooting the Mac numerous times didn't, but if anyone else is experiencing the same problem it's worth a go.

And now Growl 1.3 (just released via the App Store), which is supposed to be the official Lion release, has screwed things up again. No Growl notifications:-(

Same here, absolutely no way to get any Growl 1.3 notifications for SABnzbd 0.6.9 on Mac OSX 10.7.1
Do someone have a trick ?

The trick is to use NETGROWL - a PHP script that can be called from within SABnzbd+ - with some configuration.

The solution is to reconfigure and recompile the Growl parts, following http://growl.info/documentation/developer/gntp.php.

In previous versions Growl accepted UDP notifications. These are now ignored.

One problem is that Growl 1.3 breaks compatibility with 1.2.2 style API.
Read the forums, there are simply lots of problems with Growl 1.3.
It's a rather shameful affair for an app that now requires payment.
Growl 1.2.2 works on Lion, although some people complain that after a while
it stops receiving (or at least showing) messages from SABnzbd.
So far, I blame Growl itself.
I am looking at adding support for Growl 1.3, without causing problems for existing 1.2.2 users.
