SproutCore

Post by bpwats »

Would someone be interested in creating a GUI based on the SproutCore js framework?

Well, I discovered and started reading Roughly Drafted Magazine the other day http://www.roughlydrafted.com/
A far more informative weblog than your typical Apple rumor mill copycat sites. Especially for those more technologically inclined, the authors explain with a historical perspective.
As I understand it, Apple has chosen the SproutCore framework to offer web-based services on open javascript standard (Mobile Me).
I come from a Macromedia Flash (Actionscript) specialization, but have had always problems with it, due to it's closed sourced nature (and thereby dependency on Macromedia to get things right). I think software should run well (with as little developer fuss, thank you) on whatever machine. Something I value about SABnzbd.
I've never thought much about JS as enabling technology, but seeing what can be done with SproutCore (client computer application functionality on web) got me excited. Having seen recently a screen shot of shypike's work on his prototype GUI, I remembered how he wants it to resemble it more like a desktop app (somewhere on the forum thread). But then, SproutCore specifically may be overkill, I dunno.
This whole JS framework development is rather new to me.
The question came to mind mind, if other developers would be interested in using it. (I am quite sure I lack the skills to do something with it for SABnzbd, but started some fiddling with SproutCore).

Just wondering,
