How to install SABNZB in QNAP TS-469 / QTS4.1.4

Post by Edward69 »

Probably a silly question
Two years ago installing SABNZBD on my QNAP was quite easy: first install QPKG and after that install the SABNZBD qpkg package. I recently had to do a clean install on my QNAP. Unfortunately no QPKG anymore, so I don't have a clue how to install SABNZBD.

On multiple forums I see references to the use of Terminal/SSH. This is quite technical (for me), so I hope that I have other solutions to get SABNZBD installed.

Best regards
Edward

I'm running OSX with AFP and SMB connections to my QNAP NAS TS-469 Pro, with QTS 4.1.4. Installation through QFinder

Without a package, that's the only way.

The manual installation of SABnzbd on a QNAP is a lot of work and it is not suited for inexperienced users. For example you need to compile eg. par2 yourself and for that you need linux machine because you can't get the required software on your QNAP (well, you can but that's more work than manually install SABnzbd itself).

I didn't knew that the package got removed. I will build one in the very near future. Definitely for the latest stable and maybe additionally for the latest Alpha / Beta releases. I'll post it in the General Help forum.

Thank you - I made an assumption that these packages would work with a Qnap TVS-871 (Intel i5) with 12GBs of Memory and running firmware 4.2.0 Build 20151118. When I try to install some of the below packages I get an error = "The following items could not be installed - Please see Logs" and the Log says = "App install failed due to file format error"

Package Status:

SABnzbdplus - Installed but Web Interface (Port 8800) is not working in Browser
Git - Installed without issue (I am not sure what function this will perform on the system)
Qnapware - Installed without issue (I am not sure what function this will perform on the system)
Python - Installed without issue
Entware-ng - Installed without issue (I am not sure what function this will perform on the system)
Plex Media Server - Installed without issue
SickBeard - App install failed due to file format error
CouchPotato2 - App install failed due to file format error
Headphones - App install failed due to file format error
Mylar - App install failed due to file format error

I am not sure where to post this since you have the only link to the repository, please direct me to a better board since we are dealing with so many different applications at one time (a Qnap forum may be better)

I did not solve the issue - I went another route: I activated the Vitalization Station and built a Windows 7 VM and now run all my Add-On apps in Windows 7 and it works perfect! This VM is assigned a new (Different) IP address so I do not have port conflicts of any kind

SABnzbdplus - Uninstalled from QTS and Installed on Windows 7 VM Box and works perfect!
Git - Uninstalled from QTS since it is not needed
Qnapware - Uninstalled from QTS since it is not needed
Python - Uninstalled from QTS since it is not needed
Entware-ng - Uninstalled from QTS since it is not needed
Plex Media Server - Installed without issue on QTS
SickBeard - Uninstalled from QTS since it is not needed - Moved to Sonarr on Windows 7 VM
CouchPotato2 - Uninstalled from QTS and Installed on Windows 7 VM Box and works perfect!
Headphones - Uninstalled from QTS and Installed on Windows 7 VM Box and works perfect!
Mylar - Uninstalled from QTS Stopped using this also - not supported.

I have come to the conclusion that I must have a Windows 7 (8.x & 10 Send info to M$) to run these tools - I am not a Unix Guy and the less you touch QTS the better - Plex is the only exception since they have the development power to keep it current. So I have what I wanted - everything running on my QNAP - Less power used and I have it all just working!

Please ask for a date at the Syno forum.
The team creating SABnzbd does not create QNAP packages.

Just for clarity, who do you expect to do this?

the same people that package it now, that package it for the other flavours of Linux like Synology for example.

its a great product, linux is a shit OS but its an OS all the same, and i respect that it will have its challenges and its not as if Qnap nas servers are new to the market place, there is a lot of people out there that would use your product more if there was a qpkg version that worked.

i think its getting a bad rap not because the product is bad in fact its great, its because those that have attempted to package a qpkg version of it have done so badly so your the experts how about doing the Qnap community a solid and throw one together for them that works.

The problem is that none of the team is familiar with the QNAP technology.

I contacted the creator the package (also the guy that makes nzbToMedia), he says he's going to update it soon:
