Suddenly, after a number of years, my downloads are just stopping and it's invariably at 9%. If I force a second file it will also stop at 9%, 3rd and subsequent files that I force will not start at all.
If a log file is required to help diagnosing this could you point me at how to go about getting one?

Check your connection in Status and Interface settings window.
Use Test Server in Config > Servers.
We will probably ask you to do a test using only basic settings. - Do you experience problems during repair or unpacking?
Enable +Debug logging in the Status and Interface settings window and share the relevant parts of the log here using [ code ] sections.

Do the official test download:
In SABnzbd's upper right corner, click on the wrench symbol ("Status and interface options"), then click on first tab Status, and there click on "Test download" 100MB or 1000MB.

100mb in 28secs @ 3.6MB/s
1000mb in 3.34secs @ 4.7MB/s
Hardly any latency on either....either.
The 9%ers also eventually started and downloaded successfully but they did sit there for a long time'stuck'
Obviously more patience is required on my part.
