Strange network behavior

Post by chroma601 »

It takes a long time for an NZB to download (from any indexer). Just had an NZB of 7.5MB take three minutes. But the download of the requested files was at full speed, 100MB/s. I tend to think there might be some strange network settings beyond my grasp, but running a speedtest gives me my full bandwidth while downloading an NZB takes forever (the NZB takes forever, the file download from the NZB is full speed). It's likely not the browser, as a recent install of a photo editor had to phone in for templates and it took five hours to trickle in (probably 1GB of data). Connection is gigabyte.

I'm sure it's not a SABnzbd problem, but I don't know where to begin troubleshooting this strangeness. Help appreciated! It's a new computer (Skytech Azure 2, Ryzen 7 7700, seems to run very well except certain types of downloads are slow).

Running SAB version 4.3.3

So what exactly takes so long?
It reaches 100% of the download and stays there?
It really shows 100MB/s in the speed indicator?

When the browser is grabbing the actual NZB file, it goes slowly. Once SAB gets that NZB, it downloads at full speed. It's not just the browser, other programs that call home take long.

Those requests are general HTTPS requests. Are you using any filtering software or things like malwarebytes?

To (hopefully) clarify: It takes several minutes to load the TitanTV program guide. It trickles in at 0.5 MB/s while my network is rated for 100 MB/s. Running Speedtest gives around 100 MB/s, and SAB downloads from my news servers are full speed. But the download speed for an NZB file to get from any indexer to SAB is around 0.5 MB/s, so grabbing an NZB for a very large file can take several minutes. Then SAB downloads that file full speed.

Maybe it's just the Indexer you use?
Have you tried any other one?

Yes, all indexers (I have five). Not just browser, my net connected games lag badly. But downloads from servers are full speed as is Speedtest. Sites like Reddit load very slow, too.

Problem solved.

On advice from my ISP, I replaced the Cat 6 cable connecting the router to the PC. All is back to normal.
