I use SABnzbd on Windows 10 with AdGuard VPN.
It works fine with Socks 5, but it does not work with the Direct VPN option of AdGuard the way I used it before.
I set AdGuard VPN before to only route some apps (Firefox, JD2, qbittor...) over VPN, which worked flawless.
But when I added SABnzbd 4.5.5 the connection to the Ewaka servers did not go over VPN. In SABnzbd I also saw my real public IP.
Only when I changed AdGuard VPN (and SABnzbd ) to Socks5 the traffic did flow over VPN and SABnzbd did show the VPN public IP.
Why is that? It's the only application so far that circumvent somehow the VPN.
Thank you
J.

Re: SABnzbd on Windows 10 with AdGuard VPN
So VPN on the same machine as SABnzbd?
If so, try: Config > Specials > outgoing_nntp_ip
or http://127.0.0.1:8080/config/special/#outgoing_nntp_ip

Yes, on the same PC. Which IP (or what) shall I enter here?sander wrote: ↑February 15th, 2026, 1:05 pm So VPN on the same machine as SABnzbd?

Re: SABnzbd on Windows 10 with AdGuard VPN
Which my config would you advice to just use Socks 5 or change back to direct VPN only for some apps (the same I configure for Socks 5)?
Is there any stability or speed advantage of one or another? I used Socks 5 before, but then had to route an app over VPN that did not allow Socks 5 config, so I switched to direct VPN. I dont use this app anymore so generally I can use Socks 5 or direct, whatever is more beneficial.

I find sock5 much easier and controllable.
For speed: test for yourself.

Re: SABnzbd on Windows 10 with AdGuard VPN
The advantage I see with Socks 5 is clearly that I dont have to care about app updates, while with direct vpn and selected apps i see some app versions with selected apps which gives me the impression that i have to remember to add a new version to the VPN.
I will stay now with Socks 5 since its working really well and I understand what im doing. With the special setting I would need to document that so i remember it in the future
Thank you.
