Re: wiki.sabnzbd.org - The SABnzbd Manual - Suggestions & Discussion
On the bottom of the wiki Configure RSS page, it says that you can remove the &fauth= section of the URL. That part is required since mid 2009 (mentioned in this post) and really confuses people trying to set up their feeds for the first time. I know it did me in for a bit.
Please remove the sentence "If you want, you can remove the end of the URL starting at &fauth, this contains your encrypted userid and password." and the example URL below it.
Thanks

What's with the wiki, I can't see how to edit it, am I blind?
Re: wiki.sabnzbd.org - The SABnzbd Manual - Suggestions & Discussion
It's not a publicly editable Wiki.spr1813244 wrote: What's with the wiki, I can't see how to edit it, am I blind?

Great.... probably why it's out of date. Why don't you just call it a faq or manual then?
Re: wiki.sabnzbd.org - The SABnzbd Manual - Suggestions & Discussion
It says "SABnzbd Manual" at the top of the opening pagespr1813244 wrote: Great.... probably why it's out of date. Why don't you just call it a faq or manual then?
We're open for improvement suggestions, just tell us what's wrong.
One reason we're not opening it for "everybody" is fear of spamming.
Everyday we need to remove multiple spam messages from this forum.

My suggestion would be if you want a manual, have a manual. If you want a wiki, have a wiki. There's nothing more frustrating for Newb's than spending ages sifting through rubbish to get at an answer, then having to jump through another ten hopes to share their fix. Can't comment on your spam levels, but there are plenty of other wiki's that seem to get by. Out.
Re: wiki.sabnzbd.org - The SABnzbd Manual - Suggestions & Discussion
Would it make you happier if I changed the CNAME to manual.sabnzbd.org? Do you have a specific example of something that frustrated you, or are you just speculating? Rather than just telling us what it is you wanted to update, you've just complained that you can't edit it.spr1813244 wrote: My suggestion would be if you want a manual, have a manual. I think it might be useful to add a section to the wiki on how to start the app in paused (-p) mode for MacOS. If you think it would be a good idea I would more than happy to write up a how to.
Thank you all for this awesome app!

The Wiki isn't a true Wiki in the sense that it has a very limited group of authors.LoveGandhi wrote: I think it might be useful to add a section to the wiki on how to start the app in paused (-p) mode for MacOS. If you think it would be a good idea I would more than happy to write up a how to.
You can post your contribution here and we'll gladly add it to the manual.

Re: wiki.sabnzbd.org - The SABnzbd Manual - Suggestions & Di
Having tried a previous version of SABnzb a few years a go and found it unsuitable i stumbled across an article on lifehacker and thought it time to give it another look.
I am very, very glad i did; i just installed SABnzbd this evening and i thought it might be useful to post the very few sticking points i encountered when configuring SABnzbd from the perspective of someone completely unused to anything related to how the software looks or acts but very familiar with usenet, nzb, etc.
Before installing i read the whole manual.
using SABnzbd 0.6.9
on winxp sp3
http://wiki.sabnzbd.org/configure-switches-v2
Switches - Post processing - Enable Quick Check
lack of clarity on what is going on
does quick check do an on the fly parity check using the downloaded par2
it implies that par2 is used but does not state it
http://forums.sabnzbd.org/viewtopic.php ... c33#p51603
this post explains it nicely and i suggest that the information in this sentance from the post is incorporated for clarity.
"Quick Check process using par2 checksums concurrently with the download process, and then if that fails do full par2 verification and repair after the download finishes."
http://wiki.sabnzbd.org/configure-switches-v2
spelling mistake
Enable QuickCheck
If there are any error in the files
should read
If there are any errors in the files
#######################
when i added an nzb to download using the watched folder i had difficulty finding where to change the default processing action from +Delete to +Repair. i was obviously able to change it just for my test download in the gui but i wanted to change it for all new downloads.
http://wiki.sabnzbd.org/configure-switches-v2
Configure Switches - Processing Switches
Default priority Specify the priority jobs that have no specific priority set.
Default post-processing Specify the job options for jobs that have no specific job-options set.
Default user script Default user-provided script for jobs that have no specific script set.
these parts no longer refer to anything in this part of the gui config
Config - Switches
https://localhost/sabnzbd/config/switches/
having this misinformation slowed me down from finding the correct information in the Categories section.
you may want to split the Processing Switches section into a Queue & Post processing section so it matches the gui config layout.
i think that it would be a good idea to include a note at the end of the Configure Switches section
(below the IONice part) about being able to set the default R/U/D job option in the Categories section as
it is not obvious that it can be found there but would be expected to be in the Processing switches section.
(i guess that it was in this section in an older version).
thats all the notes i have and i hope they are of use to improve the manual.

I'm a n00b but if I may suggest:
On my Macs, one running 10.6, the other 10.7, sabnzbd doesn't automatically startup on either by default. I fixed this by going to System Preferences / Accounts / Login Items and clicked the plus sign to add sabnzbd to items that startup automatically.

Re: wiki.sabnzbd.org - The SABnzbd Manual - Suggestions & Di
just a quick note on a footnote which i believe is out of date
NZB Sources - Usenet Indexing Sites
NZBIndex RSS Footnote 5
I have been using NZBIndex almost since day one (about 7 months) and i have never seen fresh NZB Identifiers each time the feed is read. I hypothesise that if it once did work the way stated it has since been fixed. Incidentally i do have "Detect Duplicate Downloads" enabled and it does catch and pause the occasional duplicate post
