Anyone having problems again?
Everything was fine until a few days ago (I was topping out my download speed), but now I'm getting server connection errors to newszilla6.xs4all.nl , reader.ipv6.xsnews.nl, and news.ipv6.eweka.nl, and my download speed is horrible.
Is it possible my ISP caught on and is blocking now, or is anyone else having the issue?

Re: Free Newsservers
Are you using go6 / freenet6 / hexago / tcpc? If so: I couldn't reach them during the past days: not via IPv6 nor via IPv4. Some kind of outage on their site/side. Everything seems to be OK right now.phunkysai wrote: Anyone having problems again?

Anyway: before you suspect your ISP or the Newsserver, always make sure your IPv6 is working by surfing to http://www.whatismyipv6.net/ and checking that that site says "Your IP is 2001:..." (and not your IPv4 address).
If that site reports a 2001:.. IPv6 address, traceroute6 / ping6 / mtr the newsserver to see that you can reach it.
If that works too, you can check the NNTP-functionality by SABnzbd or a manual "telnet news.ipv6.eweka.nl nntp". Only if they are all unreachable, you can suspect your ISP or go6 (or your own firewall ;-) ).

Re: Free Newsservers
thanks for the info. Here are my results:
- Went to whatismyipv6.net and it said my IP was "2001:..... etc"
- I pinged all 3 newservers and they responded fine; connected to each with no lost packets
- Manual telnet command you gave below worked; connected with same message you got
I'm vexed. My download speed will jump to 500 k/s, and then right back down to 0, and back again, - downloads are taking forever now....

Re: Free Newsservers
Interesting: I hear the same experiences from others! So it could be the hexago / freenet6 / tspc connection speed itself is going up and down.phunkysai wrote:

Further tests:
what speed do you get if you download this 500+ MB file from this IPV6 address:
http://[2001:6a8:a40::21]/pub/mirror/cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/releases/8.04.1/release/xubuntu-8.04.1-desktop-i386.iso
With go6 / tspc, I only get about 250 kbps. See below. With Sixxs / aiccu, I get linespeed (10.000 kbps).
tspc:
Code: Select all
sander@ubuntu804:~$ wget http://[2001:6a8:a40::21]/pub/mirror/cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/releases/8.04.1/release/xubuntu-8.04.1-desktop-i386.iso

Re: Free Newsservers
I'm getting around 300 k on that download.
I don't get it...only a few days ago everything was fine. I was downloading from multiple news servers and getting large files in snap. I haven't made any config changes on my end.
Ugh.
thanks for all your help....

Re: Free Newsservers
You guys could consider running test.news-service.com now with ssl and on port 563 . I'm getting blazzing speeds now 40-50 mbit per thread when downloading headers and 10-20 mbit for binnaries and they raized the connection cap you can use way over 10 connections now ) .You'll be amazed on the speed , it now all depends on your connection or ISP . Hope this helps
Ps: i have an dynamic ip so i can not tell you exactly if there still is tha cap , even though i would download 30-40 GB or more without changing the Ip so i gues the cap is off.

Re: Free Newsservers
Well I finally solved my problem. I had too many servers running as primary I guess (but that worked just fine a week ago), so I made eweka the primary one, and now I'm back to line speed.
Thanks for all the help!

Re: Free Newsservers
I imagine that since it has "test" in the url that it will go away eventually (at least, that's my experience)....
Re: Free Newsservers
Uhm this server is been up for more than year almost two if i recall corectly, but it never allowed SSl until several days ago, as for normal conection they used to be capped or at least slow , now i'm just amazed of the speeds is much more faster than some "Premium"ones.phunkysai wrote: I imagine that since it has "test" in the url that it will go away eventually (at least, that's my experience)....
Re: Free Newsservers
Well that is definitely good to hear....if eweka ever stops working for me I know which one to go to!
Re: Free Newsservers
Is this allowing connection on IPv4 and/or 6?kiljaden wrote: You guys could consider running test.news-service.com now with ssl and on port 563 . Re: Free Newsservers
It's on Ipv4 so need for the extra ipv6 conectivity in case you don't have Ipv6 support from your ISP.
Re: Free Newsservers
What are the max connections on that test one? I want to max it out!
Re: Free Newsservers
Since i get 10-20 m/bit per conection and i have an 100 mbit conection , 10 connections are more than enough , tried 15 and no errors , so unless you have something higher than 100 mbit stick to 10 .phunkysai wrote: What are the max connections on that test one? I want to max it out! ;D
Re: Free Newsservers
is it still working ?
