Speeds stuck at a low rate

Post by boognish43 »

Hello, Im not new to usenet/sabnzb but I havent used it in a few years. I got everything setup a couple days ago and was happily chugging along when last night my downloads started crawling. I adjusted the server connections to both of my servers down to 10 (I saw this was slowing someone else down). I went through my whole config/setup and nothing looks like it is causing it to be limited.

I was able to get 4000+ KB/s easily yesterday morning but now it wont go past 1500 and whenever it reaches that it slowly goes back to 0 then back to 1500. I have restarted my computers on the network, modem, router and it still does it.

windows 7 64
SABnzbd Version: 0.7.16

hope someone can help me figure this out
Thanks!

edit to add: torrents and web downloading are not affected, I still can get great speeds from those sources

Hard to tell, but obviously the Usenet provider is a factor too.
Which one is it?

Astraweb is a bit weird, somehow it and SABnzbd don't really like eachother.
Old posts coming from Astraweb are slow (this is independent of SABnzbd).

No Luck, Heres what ive tried so far:

this was all tested with a newer released nzb file

Changed tweaknews to default and only server
changed port number of sabnzb
changed the drive it was downloading to an ssd
emptied the queue and history
made sure other programs weren't using the bandwith

what else can I troubleshoot here?

Try an alternative client, e.g. Grabit.
Easy to setup, good enough for a speed test.

great idea! Unfortunately I got the same speed results as I do in sabnzb. I also tried grabit on another computer on the same network with the same results.

could my internet provider be throttling usenet traffic specifically? Im getting about 800 KB/s max now

I guess now ill be one my own since its obviously not a sabnzb issue :)

Thanks!

It could be, which one do you have?
Sometimes its possible to fool them by using SSL on an alternative port.
Check your Usenet provider's documentation.
