Download ONLY when internet traffic is Idle

Post by goslingcools »

Hi, Í keep on clicking pause and resume all the time. I do not have enough bandwidth to limit the downloadspeed and do onther internet stuff both at the same time. I have seen that Adobe Updater works like that. When I surf (until the page is laoded, check mail, the download pauses, when these programs are Idle (not using the internet), the download resumes automaticaly.

Could this be possible with Sabnzbd too?

Never worry anymore about forgotten to press resume....

I think that a BW shaper can also help in this

We're not going to integrate a bandwidth monitor.
Just set the maximum speed to about 80-90% of your bandwidth.

Some routers allow you to set traffic priority.
In that case set port 119 traffic to low priority.

Yes and so would router priorities.
I was just saying that we're not going to include a sophisticated monitor/limiter in SABnzbd itself.

Something like SabNZB status for firefox could implement something like this. Like if loading a webpage or downloading a file it automatically sends a pause command to Sab. When the page is done downloading or the file downloaded, a resume command is sent.

Personal traffic shaper, that is cheap, efficient and lite: cFosSpeed.

I have used it for many years before having my router do the same job, I would say that cFosSpeed was even better at the job than my FreeBSD router, but cFosSpeed will benefit only one PC, recently they have added the possibility to install it to many PC in the same home network so all PC get the benefit of shaping.

Once installed you reboot and everything should run more smoothly, it default configuration will take care of your web surfing problem while you download newsgroups or sharing files with peer-2-peer applications even those apps that encrypt their packets.

(I do not work for cFos by the way, it's only a sharing of experience)
