Not a satisfying answer, but I get the same OK results with
10.04 and 11.04, albeit in a VMWare session.
Which one did you try last?

So after cleaning up old install the problem persists still dl speeds of 45KiB/s while on Windows same file an sanzbd version 1,4MiB/s.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/sabnzbd ... zbd-0.6.5/ was my last try.

To clarify some things it worked til jesterday and before that for weeks without problems and i did not change a thing in the mean time no updates (installed now) no change in router setings etc.

oh sry im running 10.04 LTS will test on my laptop with 11.04.

EDIT:

Same problem on my Laptop with Ubuntu 11.04 and sabnzbd 0.5.6, still good speeds on windows

EDIT 2:

restarted about every network device i habe and still the problem persits

no no that was just to test it with another Ubuntu version and i still used Gbit cable

The PC sabnzbd is running on is an rather old AMD Althlon 64 x2 4400+ with 4gig ram and 4 2TB hard drives.

All going well here on Ubuntu 11.04, fully updated and running 0.6.6Beta2.
4 MBytes/sec without an article cache and about 6MBytes/sec with a sizeable one.
My absolute max is 11MBytes/sec, limited by my line speed.
Running on a Win7 PC under VMWare.

In short, I don't have a clue

45K is just a ridiculous speed that's not easily explained.

ok thank you for now its late here and I am going to sleep and will try a clena setup tomorrow in a vm just to see if it works my max is 4MBytw/sec ans 45KByte/sec is realy just ridiculously slow. I will let you know if i find anything else

As you can see I even tried a different server. About the only other thing I can think of is dropping ssl? That would be a shame, as that's one of the major reasons I came across to usenet.
I'm running a brand spanking new clean ubuntu 11.04 install, only done last night, with sabnzbdplus, and sickbeard installed. Oh, and Team Viewer. That's IT. Nothing else.

Rebooting my router isn't helping, bouncing sab/sickbeard helps for about 2 minutes, then it's back.

I'm a Ubuntu noob, so please explain things to me like you would when explaining to your grandmother!

Try anyway without SSL, if only to eliminate it as a cause.

Ok, I'll give it a try and see if that's it. But I'm really not too interested in NOT using SSL longterm. Rather not get snooped by da man.

Ok, no go. Still the same. I'm only connecting to non-ssl server, but it's still happening.

Works for about 2 minutes, then nothing. If I force a disconnect, then test my server again, it all works and connects up and start working again, for another few minutes.

Rinse & Repeat.

I have no idea. It works fine on my Ubuntus any those of many other people.
Also astraweb is a decent Usenet server (it has some problems, but none that explains yours).
I'd suspect routers, software firewalls and the like. Wireless is also not a good idea to download.
Do you have any other system to test with?

Can't be my router. I'm not rebooting my router, just sab. If I bounce sab, it starts up again for a few min then drops. I'm wondering if I've got the memory leaks other have mentioned?

How annoying.
