Sabnzbd Pre-Packaged Install?

Post by Vastlee »

So I'm a new user of Linux/Ubuntu, still trying to get my feel of things.  I was wondering if there was a reason that SABnzbd didn't have a listing in the package manager?  Also, a few other things I've found on the net had a download that allowed me to just download and run and the package manager installed for me.  Seems to me that if Ubuntu is going to take off as an OS and actually rival MS/Mac that it's going to have to take steps like this to make things idiot (me) proof.  The windows binary I can download, run, and viola, but I'm not even sure where to begin with all the python and such.  Anyway, the main question I had was if anyone had made a package installer for SABnzbd to automate the process in Ubuntu?  Any input on this would be welcome.

This has been discussed at length.
The entry qualifications for Debian package creators are so high that we just not interested.
After that you get the same circus for RedHat, Novell/Suse and the all the BSD's.

However, there's an un-official package:

You can also find an unofficial .deb release here: http://www.mbastiaan.nl/sabnzbd.php

Setting up with the repository is the recommended way however.
