Perhaps some good news...  I downoaded and installed Python from here: http://www.python.org/download/releases/2.5.4/ .  So far it's been running for 30 minutes and has successfully downloaded and expanded 1 file.

I will let you know if it is still running tomorrow.

Nope.. crashed again after about an hour.  Moving back to alt.b until I can figure out why Python is crashing.

A real shame!

Very strange, until a year ago I ran it on Server2003.
It was a bit less stable than on other systems, but not as bad as you describe it.
I always blamed this on my trying to run it as a service.
I'll see if I can resurrect the system.

Actually the wierd thing is that I am running on XP SP3.  The connection here (and the reason I posted here) is that I am getting the same error message as the fellow with Server 2003

I have no idea.
The system I do most of my testing on and on which I generate the official releases,
is in fact an XP-SP3 system.

Obviously there are many factors influencing proper operation:
drivers, hardware, firewalls, virus scanners...

I'm also running Sabnzbd (v0.4.11) on a Windows Server 2003.
On my system it also crashes (especially with big nzbs), with the same errors as given before.

Not very useful info, but not much has changed in SABnzbd in the last months.
Windows on the other hand gets updated monthly.

So far, we never got enough feedback to say anything about this problem,
which doesn't affect everybody.
I know a few people who have 0 problems with Server2003.

You could sign-up for the 0.5.0 Alpha program.
There have been may changes there including replacement of most 3rd party modules.
See Beta test board, top message.
