Upgrade to newer version for Ubuntu 12.04?

I recently installed sabnzbd, and I'm very pleased at how much nicer it is than my old standby, Binreader. It's like a whole new ballgame, going from rigid lack of configuration options to a world full of options. :-)

So far, everything is working well - I was even able to connect with my Android tablet via dynDNS, and get the same look and feel as the desktop client - handy if I'm streaming video to the TV, and forgot I was junk up my bandwidth for downloads - no need to get up.

Oh, yes, I almost forgot... I had a question. I installed the standard version in the Ubuntu repo, version 6.15. Can I upgrade the app without upgrading Ubuntu? Is it worth it?

Yes.

Thanks, Sander. I used that page originally, and got version 6.15 for Ubuntu 12.04. I believe the newer Ubuntu versions might have newer sabnzbd versions, but I don't need to upgrade Ubuntu, as I've got it working well, and have no need to upgrade so far. So my question was whether downloading a newer version of sabnzbd would create any problems with the older Ubuntu, like dependencies or something.

With the PPA set, you should get SABnzbd 0.7.16. Also on Ubuntu 12.04

And no, it will not create problems.

I see. I thought the page was saying to use the standard multiverse version, but on closer inspection, i see that there's the comment about the PPA being more up to date, so I added it, and got the updated newer version.

Thanks for your help. The forum seems to be as good as the app itself. I'm looking forward to using it more now that I finally cancelled my old Easynews account with it's web interface. It was useful in the old days before streaming became so common, but now it's a waste of money for me.

Hope you don't mind, but... After updating, everytime I start (using

Code: Select all

sudo service sabnzbdplus start
), I get this response:

Code: Select all

(sabnzbdplus:12353): WARNING **: Command line `dbus-launch --autolaunch=75bcb527bac5fc8360d12ff800000009 --binary-syntax --close-stderr' exited with non-zero exit status 1: Autolaunch error: X11 initialization failed.\n
It may not be important, as the service does seem to run OK. I don't know what command line even mentions dbus - not the one that runs sabnzbdplus.

Any ideas?

Are you running Ubuntu Server, so without any GUI?

No, this is not server. But it is run at startup, if that matters, possibly before the GUI is run.

It was set up as instructed in the section "How To Run as a Service" on the page you linked to.

It's discussed but not solved here: http://forums.sabnzbd.org/viewtopic.php ... =30#p69369

Thanks - if there's not a known solution, then perhaps I'll poke around a little and see if I can solve the problem But since it seems to work OK, it won't be a priority, more of a puzzle to work on.
