Issue with newzbin reports

Post by b1scu1t »

Hello,

I ran into a weird problem, or may be that is the way things work and may be you guys can clarify it.

I downloaded an nzb report from newzbin.  But, when SAB was trying to do its thing, it choked on corrupt rars.  I further went and searched for the rars manually and was able to individually download them and use that to get what I wanted.

How does this happen?  Don't the reports get generated out of the same information as the individual rar's?

Actual people create the reports on newzbin, aided by search machines.
Sometimes a reporter makes a mistake and creates an incorrect NZB.

NZB files consist of collections of articles that form files, which in turn form a complete post.
Usually the NZB file also contains articles sets that form PAR2 files.
This allows error correction on incomplete posts, as Usenet is not a very reliable source.
Sometimes an NZB file contains only information about RAR files, but no PAR2 files.
If then some articles are missing you end up with corrupt RAR files, because
SABnzbd doesn't even have the possibility to do a repair.

In this case you were better at searching than the newzbin reporter.

The funny thing was, all the rar and par files were included in the report.  It is just that a few of the rar files were corrupt(a lot).  I needed a lot more recovery blocks than what the par files provided., which is when I got the individual rar files.

Could it be that the first time you downloaded, the post wasn't complete?
It appears that some of the reporters post the NZB before all the files are completely uploaded.
When you later downloaded the individual Rar's, they were complete.

Just a thought

I thought so too, but these reports are more than a 100 days old, and they were created right when they were uploaded.
