I run SABnzbd 2.3.3 [1f04343] as a Windows Service and just upgraded my Windows 10 PC from the Fall Creators Update version 1709 to the new April 2018 Update version 1803 (10.0.17134.1). Now SABnzbd displays the error "Cannot reach the SABHelper service".

I tried uninstalling/reinstalling the Windows Services SABnzbd and SABHelper but this did not fix the problem. Both services are Running ok and they run under Local System. The log file contains:

2018-04-30 13:49:28,084::ERROR::[SABnzbd:1408] Cannot reach the SABHelper service
2018-04-30 13:49:28,084::INFO::[SABnzbd:1418] Starting SABnzbd-service.exe-2.3.2

Is anyone else having this issue with the new Windows 10 version 1803?

Did you also try to restart the system?

Yes I did, a few times, and the same error persists.

And starting SABnzbd normally (not as service), does it work?

I stopped both Windows services and then ran SABnzbd under my user account and the "Cannot reach the SABHelper service" error went away. I run SABnzbd as a Windows service so that it starts on PC startup and I don't have to login.

Edit: When running as a service, I confirmed in Task Manager that both SABnzbd-helper.exe and SABnzbd-service.exe are running under username SYSTEM.

I also get the same error after having installed the latest Windows 10 April update.

Running it as a service before and after the update, no error was shown before the update.

Log shows-

2018-05-01 20:09:11,947::ERROR::[SABnzbd:1412] Cannot reach the SABHelper service
2018-05-01 20:09:11,947::INFO::[SABnzbd:1422] Starting SABnzbd-service.exe-2.3.3

Same issue here, anybody found a solution for this problem?

Reboot, Reinstall of services and overwrite Install did not fix the issue .

I can reproduce it, but have no clue what is causing it :/

I installed this version and it fixed the problem. The error "Cannot reach the SABHelper service" is gone. Thank you safihre!

I’m now getting this issue with 2.3.4 using Windows Home Server 2011. Worked perfectly before.

Restarted, tried stopping services and reinstalling - still not working. Both services are running.
Has the W10 fix maybe broken it for older versions?

edited - Think I’ve fixed it, while the main SAB service was set to run as admin, the helper was local system. Updated this to Admin and restarted the services and the error has gone. Strange that it’s worked since I started using it several years ago but suddenly stopped!

I had to make a small change to restore Windows 10 compatibility, maybe this caused it.
But good to know for others!

Strangely now after a restart the helper service started but the main SAB service didn’t. Manually started for the moment and it started fine

Just wanted to add that with my Windows Server 2016 the same thing happened and I got the error with 2.3.4 even though the services were running. Was fine with previous versions, and I just had to change the helper service (using local system) to use the same account as the main service and then it was ok again.

FYI, Server 2016 is basically Windows 10 build 1607, so that's how it would behave, it doesn't get later builds as you have to fully upgrade to get later ones.
