Appreciate the effort you guys are putting in trying to help me,
Any suggestion as to where I can find older versions of SABnzbd that potentially WOULD work with win7?
SABnzbd 3.1.0 did not work.

SOLVED.
Based on the suggestions from safihre I tried getting as many updates as possible for my win7 machine. It has been installed after Microsoft axed it so auto-update has not been possible. Apparently, this one did the trick > windows6.1-kb3125574-v4-x64_2dafb1d203c8964239af3048b5dd4b1264cd93b9.
There is a certificate issue trying to use secure download, but I can definitely live without that. SABnzbd is now happily "mining" my nzb's.
