RC6 - "Unpacking failed, an expected file was not unpacked"

Version: 0.5.0 RC6
OS: Windows 7 x64
Install-type: Windows Installer
Skin (if applicable): Default
Firewall Software: Microsoft Security Essentials / Windows Firewall
Are you using IPV6? No
Is the issue reproducible? Don't know

I just did a reformat/reinstall of Windows 7 x64 today, and when it came time to reinstall sabnzbd+, I decided to go for  0.5.0 RC6, specifically for nzbmatrix support...

Anyway it can no longer unrar the files it downloads.  I can manually unrar just fine, the files aren't corrupted or anything, but it doesn't do it in post-processing like it used to.  it tries, then fails.

In the History Tab every download looks like this:

Code: Select all

Download
Downloaded in 17 seconds at an average of 7.18 MB/s
Repair
    [FILENAME] Quick Check OK
Unpack
Unpacking failed, an expected file was not unpacked
Path
    f:\Usenet\Path\FILENAME
I've tried changing the .ini file to unpack_check = 0 as I read about in another thread.

At that point, it changes the unpack section of the history to

Code: Select all

[FILENAME] Unpacked 0 files/folders in 0 seconds
Not too sure where to go from here, any troubleshooting tips?  I've also tried the default post-Processing to +unpack instead of +delete, and then back again, same thing...restarted sabnzbd+, same thing...restarted PC, same thing.

I've been using sabnzbd+ for about a year, but I never got too fancy with it.    Help!  Thanks in advance,
-Matt

Despite the odd line in the history, did the files unpack OK?
Does this behaviour occur for every download or is this just an incident?
Do you have a non-standard code page? (If you use English Windows, don't bother checking).

There is a known problem where unrar uses one character in the actual filename
but reports another one to SABnzbd.

No, they don't unpack, the rar files simply stay in the temporary download folder...at that point I can manually unrar them fine.

At first I thought it was happening on every download, but then I've noticed that it seems like when I download applications it seems to unrar okay.  But mkv's and avi's don't seem to EVER unrar.

I'm running standard US English windows...firefox 3.6, i.e. 8

It's really got me scratching my head.  I'd go back to the old version but I really like using sabnzbdStatus to let SabNzbd+ call the nzb's right from the index site (newzbin, nzbmatrix) with a single click.    Now I just need to get it to take it all the way through extraction and I'll be good to go.  Other than this one (very irritating) problem, I love 0.5.0 RC6...

Do you use categories, are the failing downloads going to a specific folder?

Can you email an example of  failing NZB to bugs at sabnzbd.org ?
Please include a reference to this thread.

I do use categories.  TV and Movie would be the categories, it was an xvid tv show and a DVD ISO.   let me find one that fails and I'll shoot off an email.

*edit* sent.

Woah, I just blew my own mind, it seems to be working now.

Here's what I did...don't know WHAT specifically fixed it, though.

1) UNINSTALLED SabNZBd+ 0.5.0 RC6
2) Restarted Windows
3) Re-downloaded SabNZBd+ 0.5.0 RC6
4) Re-Installed SabNZBd+ 0.5.0 RC6
5) Disabled HTTPS both in SabNZBd+ and nzbdStatus
6) Set up my folders a LITTLE differently.
For completed downloads:  F:\Usenet\
For all others:
F:\Sabnzbd\Cache\
F:\Sabnzbd\Logs\
F:\Sabnzbd\NZbs\
F:\Sabnzbd\TemporaryDownloads\

Before, I had the cache in its own folder, then logs, nzbs, and temporary downloads all going to the same "tmp" folder.

I don't know what, if any of those changes made the difference;  hell, maybe it was just the reinstall that did it, I don't know.    I'll post back as I test it more.

Nothing wrong when I download it.

I'm not sure how SABnzbd reacts when you throw everything in one folder.
Especially the watched folder should not be combined, because it eats files.
Keep it like you have it now: all separate folders.

Will do.  In fact I don't have the watched folder configured at all, I use nzbdstatus to send the links right over to SabNzbd+ without ever downloading an NZB to my computer.  What I meant when I said I had the nzbs all in the same folder I meant the backup copy it makes or whatever.  Not downloaded nzbs

Okay after testing all day it seemed like everything was fixed....then I downloaded a DVD ISO for a movie, and got the dreaded "Unpacking failed, an expected file was not unpacked " again.  Not sure what to think now.

Yup definitely back to not extracting ANYTHING.  About to give up and go back to the last version.

Please try RC3 again and let me know your results.
However, the differences between RC3 and RC6 are small and not related at all to unrar.

I'll install RC3 to see if that makes a difference, but when I said "go back" I actually meant 0.4.12 Final, which is what  I was using prior to my formatting.

*edit*.  Installed RC3 and reconfigured, I've done three test downloads and seems to be back to extracting things again.  I'll let you know if it craps out again.  RC6 seemed to be working at first and then stopped after awhile.

Been downloading off and on all day and this thing is Unraring like there's no tomorrow, big files, small files, doesn't matter....seems faster than .4.x as well....  Hasn't messed up once.

0.4.12 contains an older version of unrar.
Could you try replacing that with the one from 0.5.0RCx ?

Well I'm running .5 RC3 right now, when that began working I dropped plans to go back to 0.4.12.  For kicks I replaced the unrar in RC3 with the one from RC6 and it still works fine, I'm assuming because they're identical...
