Sab 0.5 - 0.5.2rc1 causing OS X 10.6 Crahes!
Version: 0.5 & 0.5.2rc1 (upgraded to try to solve issue)
OS: OS X 10.6.3
Install-type: OSx .app
Skin: Default & Smpl (tried both)
Firewall Software: None
Are you using IPV6? No
Is the issue reproducible? Yes, i just run Sab!
I'm having an issue where whenever I try to download hd movies (traditionally 8 gigs +) Sab will DIE on me, causing my entire system to freeze up and I have to do a hard reboot. I have iStat Menus, and whenever this happen, I can see that my network activity stops 100%. If i'm browsing, pages stop loading. If I'm listening to internet radio, it goes dead, etc...
Please help, this has been happening for several weeks. And it comes in and out, but this is the first time it's happened 2 days in a row.
Yesterday it was while downloading "REDACTED" then today during "REDACTED".
This is the first time it's done it with a file this small, so I'd assume the file size is irrelevant. I know theres some details missing, but I really can't think of anything else to provide.

So this is still happening to me.
Happens weather I am connected using WiFi or Ethernet but only seems to occur when I'm on a specific connection though I cannot verify this because I do about 95% of my downloading on that connection and not at home.
Sorry if this does not help.

To be honest, we don't have a clue.
Our OSX supporting team member cannot reproduce it and we only
got a few reports similar to yours. Nothing in it that helps us solve the issue.

Re: Sab 0.5 - 0.5.2rc1 causing OS X 10.6 Crahes!
I recently did a fresh install of my OS and the issue still appears.
I do most of my downloading from the office and this is where the issue happens. I attempted to download last night while I was asleep at my house and my Finder did not crash (though the router did go down repeatedly ). Is it possible that the issue could be with the network at the office and not with my computer? It seems very hard to believe that that could be the cause.

Again, these problems are hard to diagnose.
It could even be a combination without any specific error in any of the parts
(router, computer, SABnzbd, etc.).
Maybe you can try an alternative Usenet program?

Hi,
Like shypike said, without steps to reproduce the problem it's hard to fix the bug...
I never had this issue, I'm testing on a mid 2007 macbook pro and an iMac i7... Have you tried another usenet soft ?
Are you using one or several servers ?

Re: Sab 0.5 - 0.5.2rc1 causing OS X 10.6 Crahes!
So I got a friend to bring in his brand new 17" MacBook Pro and he gets the same issue, so I'm pretty much 100% sure it has to do with the way our network is set up at the office.

Could you send us log by pm ?

Primalyeti,
Same problem here. I am using a D-Link router, wired (DIR-655). Just out of curiosity, what is your network setup like?

Re: Sab 0.5 - 0.5.2rc1 causing OS X 10.6 Crahes!
Same problem here guys. I think I can reproduce it.
At the moment my Mac crashes, I see this error in the console application viewing the logs;
6/29/10 12:15:38 PM kernel AppleBCM5701Ethernet: 0 a BCM5701Enet::replaceOrCopyPacket timedout
Version: 0.5.3
OS: Mac OS X 10.6.4
Install-type: OSx .app
Skin (if applicable): Default
Firewall Software: None
Are you using IPV6?: No
Is the issue reproducible?: Yes
Maybe it has to do with the following. First something about my setup.
CABLE MODEM ---> ethernet cable ---> Draytek 2130 Router ---> ethernet cable ---> Cisco switch ---> ethernet cables ---> Mac Mini 2010 + QNAP NAS
The Mac Mini runs SAB and has the incomplete folder. The complete folder is on the QNAP NAS, mounted via SMB. When I have SAB running at full power with no limits, the Mac completely freezes after a few hours. I can see the pointer change into a beachball and the Mac does not respond to anything at all.
Since this Mac is brand new (2010 model, week old) I am having this issue "out of the box" it seems.
What do you guys want to know so that I can help?
- UPDATE -
I now recall this problem only started after a few days. The only thing I changed was enable more connections for my news servers. From 20 to 50 at total. When I Google the console error message I see more people had this problem with torrents on the Mac. Since with torrents 50 connections or more are normal, this might have to do something with the problem.

I'm not sure if more connections are the cause of this, but maybe it is.
Unfortunately our OSX expert is out of town.
Having many connections is mostly not useful.
There's been a lot of marketing hype from Usenet suppliers:
"We give you even more connections".
Use the minimum amount that gives you the maximum speed.
If 25 connections don't give you more speed than 20, use 20.
I get upto 11 MBytes/sec from just 8 connections to Giganews.

Re: Sab 0.5 - 0.5.2rc1 causing OS X 10.6 Crahes!
Totally agree. I wanted to do this anyway so I've just completely wiped my HDD and installed a fresh copy of Mac OS X. Ran the software updates and only going to install SAB now in just a sec. I will queue some big files and see what happens with just 20 or 30 connections.
By the way, something else I've noticed. Besides the change in connections I also installed iStat Pro, that is also known to cause problems once in a while. Maybe the previous posters had that installed too?

You never know.x0x wrote: Besides the change in connections I also installed iStat Pro, that is also known to cause problems once in a while. Maybe the previous posters had that installed too?
Unrelated to your problem and OS, but in Windows 7 there is a bug that causes some firewalls to break the system when using SABnzbd (and others).
