How to stop SABNzbd + from automatically starting when an nzb is saved

Runing SABNzbd + 0.5.6 on Ubuntu Karmic.
When I save an nzb file to the watched folder, SABNzbd automatically begins downloading (doesn't automatically load in browser). How do I stop that? I prefer to save the nzb's and do all my downloading at the time of my choosing.

You can do the following things:

* Turn of the watch folder

* Save to another folder

* Start SABNZBD+ when you want to start downloading , close it when done (it will then load the files in the watch folder

So 3 options for you ;-)

I just discovered BUM - Boot up manager for Linux. I installed it and was able to uncheck the box for starting SABNzbd+ at boot up. Unless something has changed that I missed you have to manually configure SABnzbd+ to start at boot-up. Did you inadvertently do this and then wished to reverse it?

No. I have no idea how it happened. I could not find any settings that I could change to cause it or to stop it.

It's a long time since I installed the Debian package but presumably part of the installation would be setting up an init script and runlevel links to start sabnzbdplus as a service on system boot.

To disable this behaviour requires manipulation of symbolic links in the /etc/rc#.d/ directories. This can be achieved using one of a few approaches.

- Fully Graphical
As you found, the 'bum' package is suitable if you prefer to use a GUI.

- Terminal/CLI
Using a terminal you can enable or disable services using a text-based interface provided by the 'sysv-rc-conf' package.

I think the above two utilities are just frontends to the update-rc.d command, which can be invoked directly on the command line,
sudo update-rc.d sabnzbdplus disable

...and that the 'disable' rather than 'remove' argument is favoured as using the latter will result in recreation of the links, thus resorting to startup-enabled behaviour, if the package is updated in future.

A simple way to prevent SABnzbd+ automatically starting a download would be to pause it at any time via the web interface.
