i meant the gui is on port 7000, sorry i think i pulled that from another thread i was reading, it doesnt have any bearing on problem.  The news servers i had going over port 119 and it worked fine :(

Today i ran into the problem you were having.  SAB would not connect to any server.  I tried with SSL, without, through stunnel, and straight through.  I would get timeouts for everything.  I tried restarting SAB, restarting the computer, everything, i couldnt get a connection.

I could telnet into the news servers just fine, so i knew it wasn't a problem with my connection.

I went into the windows appdata directory for SAB and deleted everything in the cache folder, started back up, added my server, and now everything seems to be working just fine.

If you want to give a shot do this:

1. Shutdown SABnzbd
2. Go to \users\(your username)\AppData\Local\SABnzbd\cache (for Vista)
For XP i would assume its \Documents and Settings\(username)\Appdata... etc
3.  Delete everything in that folder
4. Restart SABnzbd
5.  Add your server info

Worked for me.

Starting with the --clear option should be sufficient.
This keeps the INI file. What is in the INI file always shows exactly in the Config screens.
So it's very unlikely that the INI file is wrong.
But you could try to erase that one too.

The correct locations are:
Vista:  c:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\sabnzbd
XP: c:\documents and settings\USERNAME\local settings\application data\sabnzbd

sorry, erased the cache in the c disk, in the place i pointed it to, and started clean , nothing happend.
(for info, it worked first, a month ago, then suddenly it stopped working so i re-installed it several times in the hope it would work, so i started with clean vertions and could't download at all)

ahh wel, vista with sp1 dont sound so bad after several stories...

Once I got my new box running and have a VMWare'ed XP Pro with IPV6, I can test this situation.
But I'm not sure if that's fast enough for you.
We also should get Beta6 out of the door, it solves a number of unpleasant Beta5 problems.

There are no changes in beta6 that would affect your problem, at least nothing intentional.
I'll see if I can get XP+IPV6 running asap.

You are not actually using IPV6 for Usenet communication?
Do you have multiple network interfaces?

If you want, I can prepare a binary package of what is now in the archive.
and post it somewhere.

beamen,
check your network share.

i had several network connections that could not connect tot the other pc's in my network. it could'nt even see them.

on the other hand i could connect to the internet, so i dont think the problem is in sab, but in the connection between sab en your network.

thanks for the suggestion.

I can connect to and open files on both other windows pcs on my network, as well as my network printer, and my NAS box.

When i look at the connections tab in SAB, it looks like it has made a connection with the news server, and in my router, i can see 15 connections established with my news server when sab opens up.

here is the connections page, followed by routers open connections:
