I think there is still something else going on because of all the files being deleted.

I just re-downloaded this one, and you're right, it failed, but it properly failed without being "stuck",
and all the rar files exist, rather than just being missing. 

Or is it possible that rar file deletion (and being stuck) is also part of poor handling ?

No. When I tried it, SABnzbd just claims that too many blocks were missing.
