Could it be possible to set a value (ranging from 1 to 5 for example) to let download more than 1 item simultaneously from the download queue
This could help the following problem :
the current item being downloaded from the queue could hold up all other items in the queue because it's downloading from a slow newsserver...

Set option "Only get articles for top of the queue" off.

is there a way to limit the concurrent queue entries being 'handled'
e.g. is there a way to only allow 3 concurrent queue entries being downloaded?

Not without substantial changes to the code, which is something not planned yet.
