Stopped down loading

Post by jmckeown5524 »

For reasons unknown sabnzbd went to idle.  On testing the server I got the message Too many connections to server news.newshosting.com:563 plus a note that the 502 byte limit has been exceeded.  I have the number of connections set to 8.  I'm running ver. 5.4.  I changed by virus protection to MSE.  I've tinkered around looking for some obvious but to no avail.  It was suggested that I contact you.  Thanks for the time it takes.  JimBob

Could you explain this further?
Which limit?

This is probably the literal message coming from your Usenet provider.
You need to ask your provider what it means.

Mine also simply stopped downloading. I thought that my ISP throttled me, but this wasn't trhe case. It simply stopped downloading once it ifinished a file, so the next in line has 0 downloaded bytes.

I thought it was the server then, and then I fired Newsleecher and that one downloaded without problems. On my laptop, sabnzbd also downloads without problems (installed it to test).

This Sab install keeps telling me my server times out, but all the other instances I tried are using the very same server and login, and work fine. This started happening on Friday.

I'm using Win 7 Pro X64, 4gb ram. I attach some log files to illustrate.

What is your setting on Config->Switches for "Disconnect on Empty Queue"?
The default is "on", meaning SABnzbd will disconnect all server connections when
there's no more downloading.
The alternative setting will keep the connections open, but usually the server
will timeout anyway because of inactivity.
The defauilt setting is the best one, but some rare servers are better off with
the alternative setting.

There was some activity shown on the graph below the config screen when made the change but program remains idle.  Is there a source or punch list showing the settings that I could refer to.  I had sabnzbd for about a month now I was able to download a few files at first but nothing really in the last 3 weeks.  I expect it may be a Windows problem as I use Cisco Purenet between to 2 laptops.  Because one is XP pro and the other Windows 7.  My default browser is Firefox which sabnzbd reverts to while I have http://nzbmatrix.com on Chrome maybe that's confusing things a little.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  After paying the VIP charge I feel like a newbie not being able to download anything.  I've changed virus protection to MSE, maybe I mention that already,  excuse the diatribe.
My ears are open!
thanks for the time it takes

Have you tried another Usenet client, like Grabit, on the same systems?
It would at least help to tell if SABnzbd is a factor at in all of this.

Sorry for taking this long to answer. Yes, I tried NewsLeecher and it could download files fine.

I will be trying to uninstall Sabnzbd completely while preserving only my queue file and basic settings, and see if I can replicate this non-downloading madness or get rid of it, as soon as I have some spare time.

Downloading continued after I simply deleted the first two queue items. After that, everything went back to normal. I have no idea how or why these items were affecting the downloads, but I'm finishing the queue in order to reinstall sab as it is not working optimally (loading nzbs make sab become unresponding until restarted etc.)

There are two (known) reasons for jobs stalling in the queue.
When you have multiple servers of which one is offline it can stall if no other server has a certain article.
SABnzbd insists on getting a "not found" message from the offline server.
You can prevent complete stalling by setting Config->Switches->"Only get articles for top of the queue" to "off".
The second is that a queue containing of individually paused jobs does resume after resuming an individual job.

The first cause can be prevented by setting unreliable servers to "optional".

"this issue" is rather vague.
This thread is more than a year old and several SABnzbd versions have passed.
